I have just bought a landy. Its a Series with 200tdi engine.
Would this engine originally have had an intercooler ? Should it ? How to go about installing one ?

originally it would have , its not uncommon not to fit intercooler in series for those that want to leave as standard as possible

Did not know the series came with 200tdi engine in them James, much less without an intercooler.

Were there any variations between the 200tdi that has and the ones in the later models?

they didnt, i meant when fitting the 200 a good few leave the intercooler off so as not have to alter the rad housing etc, you could fit one

You can fit an intercooler quite easily if you use the early narrow type radiator as the cooler neatly fits along side.

I run a 200 with out the turbo will do 70MPH , but as its direct injection tend not to keep that speed for long as noise is excessive, but pulls very well in comparison to the 2.5N/A that was in and it would do 70MPH as well but took longer to get there.
Still have the turbo and rad and might one day make it TDI.

General consensus is the DI is very noisy as no turbo to dampen the direct diesel noise, why anyone would fit one without the turbo I have no idea?
Great car with the full fat engine.
All series land rovers will do 70/80 mph, with the tdi you can get there effortlessly.
Best at 60/65mph

70MPH is ok done it regularly when I need to pass something on a dual carriage way or Motorway , but never keep it up for too long due to noise and reduced fuel consumption.
