2.25 Petrol series 3 engine

Hi folks...

Kai has taken his engine out and tbh I think it is siezed and beyond repair!

I am wondering whether anyone has a 2.25 series 3 type engine for sale for a good price.... the lad has little cash but is keen to get a unit to put into his rebuild...(and I am bleedin skint!)

and don't try turning it over for a week, diesel down the bores does a similar job

I will try that fanny.... thing is having taken off the manifold... it has seriously red residue on the inlets (all of them), the head refuses to move at all despite being uncoupled... and the engine will not turn over even with the help of a bleedin great bat and a half inch drive socket -

Will try your idea though... I would personally prefer that he rebuild the engine rather than simply get a replacement since this whole rebuild thing is meant to be a learning exercise for him.

if rusts eaten in the bores it will need a rebore but +20 is only 10thou a side so wont take serious corrosion damage out ,they can be relined and bored std ,but another engine cant be too hard to find

sounds a bit far gone then, a perkins prima or a 200 di perhaps?

Ok second question..... he wants this to be showable....

Will the vehicle still be showable with a 200 tdi engine in place of the original petrol one? (I know... I know... it is a silly question but then I am an ignorant git trying to train a future mechanical genuis!)

Guess that means I have to chat to him about it then. I know he is passionate about originality... but he has ambitions to take it into morocco in five years time.. and fuel costs may well be an issue

have a look at the first few pages of truckies thread - that engine looked a right mess initially - might encourage your lad to do the right thing and keep it properly original

Thanks S71... we'll strip the engine and establish what needs replacing (or whether it is beyond repair)

Have no idea where you are travelling from but your offer is gratefully accepted! Will let you know closer the time...

I am guessing he will have coupla hours stripping the engine down further once the rain dies off (the roof leaks on the workshop!)

PS... Expenses and a (sofa) bed for the night with a few beers is kinda going without saying!

no probs...me back is pretty ****ed up at the moment but i'll show you what i've done /know and carefully lift things !
