My 1998 Freelander 1 with the series L engine needed a new clutch, at the same time the cambelt was coming up for renewel and the oil cooler pipes at the cooler end were very rusty and deeply pitted. So, engine out, clutch, cam belt, pump belt, oil pipes all replaced.
Yesterday engine back in and it almost started first time, drove about 20miles ran well. Parked at home then this morning it would not start, flattened battery trying. While the battery was on charge I bled the fuel filter more in hope than anything else and some air came out. With the battery charged it started after a fair bit of cranking. Went for a drive, ran smoothly. Back home I stopped and re started it a couple times, no probs. 2 hours later though back to lots cranking before it fires up.
Anyone any ideas? Could the pump timing be out or is it air in the fuel system, mainly the fuel cooler which seems higher than any other part of the fuel system.
