1st time fill up!!

I've had my TD5 Disco a month now and it was about a quarter full when I collected it so since then I've been putting in the odd £30 here and there but the guage never seems to move that much so I was beginning to wonder if the fuel guage was working as it should.
Anyway to-day I thought lets brim her right up and see if the guage shows full.
Well it does so the guage appears to be working normally but from a tad under half full it cost £56 to fill so I think in future I'll not be letting her go empty as I'll be needing a bank loan otherwise:doh:

Mind you at 112p a liter I guess thats not a great deal of fuel these days.

Can be frightening to see that pump readout as you fill up

We has LPG which is a little more soothing on the wallet, but we keep the petrol topped up between 3/4 and full.

LPG is 56p a litre locally, 59p on the main routes.

Fuel tank gauge isn't a linear scale, so when it's showing half full it actually isn't!

Half full on mine is reached after about 320 miles, empty is anywhere from 400 to 500 miles depending on right foot .. though I've never had it too low, never seen the red light ..

Mines not red its amber!!! And its on now,,,,i'm waiting for the price to come down

Hahah , I'm often driving on amber as I cant afford to fill up, then it becomes a game of nerves as to how long you carry on driving before giving in and topping up.

Remember that the fuel pumps in the fuel tanks rely on the fuel to keep them cool.

Running on very low fuel levels can shorten the life of your pump.

But running full, all that extra weight could lower performance! Recycled bio-diesel costs less than a pound, and my TD5 seems happy on up to 50%, AND the consumption is better. Mind you I only use it on a long run, and fill up with the real stuff when I get to my destination. Just in case...

I use new veg oil but as its getting colder its getting harder to start even on 50%

Veg oil NOT recommended for TD5!

It's OK for TDi, but for TD5 it should be converted to bio-diesel. Lots about this on previous threads.

I often brim the tank when filling my dads TD5. I wait for the bubbles to subside and fill until i see fuel in the filler neck.

Normally get about £95.00 in from low fuel lights first illumination.

I agree that the guage is not that accurate - I can cover 100 miles before it even moves off the Full mark. Then on the last quarter can only cover 70 miles before fuel light illuminates.

I guess if you drive a TD5 regularly then you get used to it.

This is because you have put fuel in the filler neck you doofus NOT the inaccuracy of the fuel gauge.

Same thing happens when I simply fill and stop at first click when froth enters filler neck.

I am not a doofus!

ah see you hadn't said that had you. To be honest the first half of my fuel gauge always takes longer than the second, I think they're misrepresentational

Thats ok then, mine is a TDI, also have a gaylander dersil and i wouldn't put veggie in that

That might be the case for a small car, but my Disco carries so much weight anyway, and with the kit I carry a few kilos, indeed a lot of kilos, doesn't alter the mpg's hardly at all. Towing does thobut ...

Over a £100 to fill up is very scary indeed.
Now its full I'll try and keep it that way.

Running around on the red does my head in and it's always the case that when you want to jump in and just go especially if your in a rush I'll guarantee you will have to stop for fuel:doh:
I'd rather keep her topped up and add fuel when I'm passing one of the cheaper outlets. Every little helps as they say

I cant recall ever seeing Bio fuel for sale, who sells it?
Do you have to mix it? sounds a lot of faff or is it straight forward.
