 Hi,

I have a manual 1990 RR 3.9 LPG/petrol

Recently i started it, moved it about 20metres and parked it where it stayed for 5 days. Yesterday, i tried to start it and the engine turned over fine (it has a new battery and starter motor) but it wouldnt start.
I called up roadside assistance who came and told me there's no spark, but the coil is fine.
ive had the car since new and done 330 000kms and this is only the 2nd time its failed to start. The last time was 3 years ago when it had a faulty ignition module.
Is there any way to find out what's wrong or is it a tow job?

Thanks!

Hi.
Has the distributor cap become faulty, can you take it off to see if everything is okay inside, is it coil fed and does the spark get to the cap? Inside the cap there is a small graphite (i think) tip which feeds the rotor arm, if this has worn or fallen out it will not spark.
Let me know how you get on.

Cheers, Nick.

Well, I've replaced the distributor cap, rotor and coil and it started straight away....i drove it for about an hour and then when i parked it, it wouldnt start again??? if I wiggle the wires coming from what i think is the amplifier it will then start and runs fine. Im not sure if i need to remove the distributor to replace the amplifier??

i know it sounds daft but i had same problem last week
was the relay for the fuel pump in the fuse box
try swapping the one for the fan with the fuel pump one to test they are the same
£5.00 from rr dealer

also check the earth strap from the engine to the chassis as if this is loose or corroded this won't help , as well as the earth from the amp or what ever it may be screwd to. hope that helps.

Thanks everyone,
ive checked all the earths and they seem fine. The amplifier i was talking about is the small squarish box screwed to the side of the distributor with two wires coming out of it to the coil in a very hard to get to spot (could be the pick-up module???). The problem now is that the car starts and works perfectly fine!...so ive got no idea if ive fixed the problem (which i doubt) or if its going to stop in the middle of nowhere!!

Marcus.
