hello all, I need a little help....

Whilst getting the fog light on the series (1982 88" 2.25D) working again I discovered I have hazard warining lights too, which sort of half work (the switch and wiring had been hidden from the MOT man). The hazards looks to be a factory fit job, nice and neat, not bodged.

Ok I know I don't really need hazards due to the age of the vehicle, but they are there and would be kinda useful if (when) it ever breaks down.

I think the flasher relay for the hazards is duff, as when I switch em on, all the indiators come on and stay on.

My question is, where is the flasher unit for the hazards? So far i have Identified two relay looking things behind the dash, and a 3rd behind the centre instrument panel.

Anyone have any ideas, which of these it might be, as I have just spent a while getting everything working again, and am loathe to go rooting about disturbing stuff, especially if I'm looking in the wrong place.

Cheers for any help

the indicators use a seperate relay from the hazards if it is as origianal fit, the indicators flasher unit is the tin can type with two connections on the hazards will look more like a normal relay, the hazards relay on mine is behind the dash as is the indicators but on my older series it was down in the bottom right corner of the dash (below the heater controls). the other relay you mention is for the brake imballance light (assuming you have dual circuit brakes) it operates a red lamp that may say brake on the centre console (this is connected to the ignition circuit), by what you say it could be the hazard unit at fault but check the switch as well as they get full of crud and cause some odd probs..:D

Thanks very much pef77.

Will have another look behind the dash.

The switch seems to be alright, but I do have a spare so I'll check it.

Looks like I'll have to have a look at the brake warning light and circuit too since that don't work either:(

I don't suppose anmyone would know where I can get a better wiring diagram from? All the ones I have (original owners book, haynes and the land rover Repair manual) frustratingly lack the hazards and the stuff for the brake warning lights.

Update...

Have found the hazard relay, sat next to the normal indicator relay, behind the dash.

Both relays work, and seem oddly to both work together when indicators are used.

Methinks someone has been there before me, and has inexpertly decided to fiddle......

Got the brake thingy working though, wire was off it.

the wonderfull font of knowledge called google is worth a go for drgs, there are a few out there and usually its the petrol ones that seem to have the hazards on them..i'll see if i can find some for you and post them on here..
:)

hope this is of help
