First thought was my wife ran out of petrol, as she runs on vapour alot. I filled the tank up, with RAC following behind. Drove for a few day fine. Engine does sound perfect, until it stops, but runs fine after it starts again in a few minute. The last RAC man used to work for Landrover and he thought fuel pump. So took to garage, they found no fault but said change fuel pump! Have I perhaps just spent £500 needlessly? It doesn't spell of fuel when restart, and LD RAC man said he took fuel line off and no fuel came out! Thanks in advance.:)

Welcome to the forum :).

Hmm might be worth trying not to go down to the red light regularly. When you get to the bottom of the tank the pump starts pulling up all the crap and sludge that usually lives there harmlessly and this blocks up filters, pumps and fuel lines. Generally not advisable.

So we can help you, can you tell us what year, mileage and how long you've had it?

Does the pump prime when ignition turned on, then stop, then run on cranking? Check when working normally and when faulted see if it behaves differently?

we've had the freelander about 5 years, its done 105000. Up till now its never gone wrong so been very impressed.
To answer pump question, yes it primes when ignition turned, stops before you turn the key if you pause before cranking. As for if it works on crank couldn't tell you.
