Hi ime a new member and have a small problem on my 2003 disco with the digital heater/air con control panel, the passenger side temp switch is no longer illuminated, does anyone no if its just the case of replacing a blown bulb or is it a sealed unit and the complete unit needs to be replaced, also how does the unit come out, on a photo of the complete unit on ebay it looks like you have to compress two metal clips, is this the case, any help would be appreciated cheers :5bcheers2:

This happened to mine. I tapped the unit on the LHS and it's worked ever since - about 12 months now. Must have been a loose connection. Mind you, if that wasn't the case I would have had no idea how to effect a replacement bulb. There's no visible way in.

Hi

I replaced the bulbs on mine. You have to take the digi clock out which gets at one of the clips. The other one can be got at if you lower the fuse box door thing to the right of the steering wheel and reach your hand up through towards the climate control panel.

It's a bit fiddly to get the digi clock out. You need to push something flat at top and bottom to disengage the lugs.

Once you have the climate panel out you will see how to take the thing apart. It just splits a part. I got the small bulbs out of a motor factors, although a LR dealer might be a good bet here as they might have em in stock.

When I did mine I did a google search and also used Haynes which has some info I think.

Finding the correct bulbs was the hardest part of the job.

Cheers, Andy

you can get the A/C panel out without removing the clock, just use 2 knives (or similar) push one in at each side of the unit about half way down until you feel the clips then gently push each knife outwards until the clips release. The replacement bulbs are LR part no. 8510251 but part no. JWH100070 will also work.

I purchased 2 x JWH 100070 "Bulb - Dial Illumination" bulbs from my main stealer - cost £2.24 each (NB I can't find these on the web anywhere other than Rimmer Bros who don't display the price in their online catalogue).

I had two bulbs gone, one in the right-hand rocker switch, and the one which illuminates the little buttons across the bottom (I could live with one bulb being out, but 2 needed attention!).

Out with the radio makes it easier for me (2 allan screws on my radio), then rest the radio on the dash (without disconnecting, so no need to mess with the security code). Then fingers down the back of the dash to loosen the clips for the aircon unit and out it pops. Once out, there are 3 connectors to remove (they're all different so no need to label them).

Once the unit's clear, you can see 2 x cross-head brass-coloured screws which loosen easy. Then the first PCB hinges out of the way (it's connected to the second pcb by a ribbon cable). You don't need to undo anything else, just remove the bulbs with a sharp screwdriver, and put the new ones in place.

Total time 15 mins, job done... Works a treat!
