So, think I've decided on putting my old 19j into the 109 when I put it back together. The engine had a new cylinder head around 5000 miles ago, so presumably that should be fine- I'll check the fire face for flatness anyway. The turbo has no play in the shaft and doesn't seep oil past the bearings, so that should be ok. Really then it comes down to the bottom end. My thinking is this:
Get the cylinder bores honed and the top skimmed if needed. Will go in the steam cleaning machine at work to thoroughly de-crapulate the oil and coolant channels.
Crank and cam reground to restore the bearings.
Service the oil pump. Pressure was a bit low after a long run so could be down to that or the crank bearings. Planning on fitting a pressure gauge (genuine series 3 part) to keep an eye on it.
Oversize pistons as needed to suit the block.
New core plugs.
New oil cooler thermostat for good measure.
Recon the injectors or just get new ones.
Power steering pump was replaced already, along with the water pump. I'll make up a new wiring harness as part of the rebuild of the 109. Alternator charges fine so no point changing that either.
Anything I've missed?
