I want to go off-roading in a Freelander

Right so now I've got this kit-40mm-from MuddyMods-(front and back)-so is it pretty easy to fit? Any tips when doing it to make life a bit easier? Front first or back? Any special tools needed?
Any info/tips gratefully accepted.

I put a link to a complete How To in my last post.

Did you get the 40mm or 50mm kit. 40mm is just a case of freeing the struts enough to squeeze the kit onto place and bolt up. The 50mm kit is more challenging as chassis modification is needed for the front. Rear will need the same work for 40mm or 50mm.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to squeeze them in without completely removing the struts. If it can be done and the nuts securing the struts to the kits can be tightened properly it would certainly make life easier. When I did it I took the struts out completely, fitted the kits and refitted the struts.
If you can do it that way Dribbler let us know. ;)

Thanks guys for the input-I went for the 40mm ones.
I'll have a look at that "how to post" tomorrow as we are just going out dancing (yes I know !!- can't be helped) and it's a 4 hour marathon

Hope you post lots of pictures of your progress: while the 50mm lift is probably too extreme for me to consider, the 40mm might be "just right" :)

You can easily get more with height bigger tyres. A mate has a Freelander that isn't lifted at all but is almost as high as mine. He has MT tyres that his tyre shop didn't think would fit but they are fine.

And beside a car with normal road tyres.

They look huge, what size tyres are those? Do the big tyres affect the performance much? e.g. acceleration, speedo accuracy, gearing / climbing ability, fuel cost - won't you potentially use more fuel? Will the still fit on the spare carrier? Reduced suspension articulation? I fitted Maxxis 215/75/15 MT they give me a little extra height but are very close to the original tyres size - Wrangler 195/80/15 AT.

Colin says they are horribly noisy on the road but are good off road and give a good lift. Sorry I don't know what size they are. Mine are Kumho AT and are fine for normal road use and pretty good off road. My tyres are a little oversized but not as big as his. No idea how they effect fuel as I don't keep track but the speedo is now perfectly accurate so they must make a small difference.

I'm going to try to keep to my original 16" wheels. So I'd be interested in your mates tyre sizes Alibro.
I've also got a Disco2 fitted with Insa Turbo Special Tracks and I know how noisy they are-(for sale once it's MOTed)

You can get brand new ones for about £200 complete with all the fixings. Seem to go for about £100 second hand but hardly ever come up for sale now. I'd be interested if you're thinking of selling.
