    Lights - or not ...

Well in the car stakes I'm no dummy, solved all the P38's issues - just got fed up of doing it. In a previous life I was a vehicle tech, City and Guilds and BTEC but they were done in the day where the only electronics was the radio, where the only sensors were your ears, eyes and nose, an era...

Seller has said that he will send me a list of the 'codes' being reported ... we shall see.

    Lights - or not ...

I've had RR's since an early 2 door (1972), then a revised 4 door, then a 4 door soft dash, then a P38 - the car that made me go Land cruiser - I'm aware of the LCM's potential to screw you over since the P38 - that and suspension sensors, speed sensors, ABS ECU, ABS Unit, central locking...

    Lights - or not ...

I'm getting the same feelings for the L322 that I had for the P38 - way too many sensors and electronic gizmos to fail, far too hard to find the failed bits when they do fail. I'm not sure I want a money pit, not on a tight budget for running it but I don't want to be either ... It has no tax...

    Lights - or not ...

I'm currently on the hunt for a decent LR322 but obviously want to spend as little as possible. I've found a nice tidy one in my price range so far but it's not without issues. The headlights won't work, hazards only sometimes and tail lights are always on - this one interests me since a...

upgraded vnt turbo to td5 engine ?

VNT is a turbo with moving vanes, a VGT has a door that increases or decreases the amount of gas passing the turbo. Least ways that's how I understand it ... Different ways of achieving the same thing but I'd guess the former method would be more efficient but it is considered less reliable...

    17 yr old td5 insurance

Why debate in a vacuum - just call and ask a few brokers - there are some specialist insurers but it still isn't going to be cheap and I'd say a Defender 90 is probably going to be more expensive again because it is the tea leaves favourite. A broker that deals with many insurers is your best...

    No guts towing

Standing still you'll find it hard to produce the sort of pressure that will open it. I'd never expect oil to be ejected from the dipstick hole on any engine sounds like you have a lot of crankcase pressure there - does it still do it if you leave the breather disconnected? Even if the tappets...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

I monitor absolute pressure and also exhaust gas temperature largely because I've tuned it significantly but also to protect the engine / turbo / manifold. You should be fine with only boost which can tell you a lot - it's a pain in the hole to fit mind you. I fitted mine to the top front of...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

Limp mode in wastegate failure terms is caused by excessive boost - beyond 14 psi I think is the number used in the ECU - basically the ECU does it to protect the engine. the wastegate is used to 'dump' exhaust gas and reduce the turbo speed.

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

Leaks, splits, wear and tear - there is a little solenoid that opens to allow vacuum onto the actuator so it's associated wiring too. I'm just surprised it is so stiff - which kind of says to me that it isn't getting exercised. Have you had any 'limp' issues lately ? - engine related not...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

Hope you're turning it the right way it shouldn't be that hard - you can move the one I took off the Disco with your fingers if the actuator isn't attached - to be fair you can move it with your fingers if the actuator is attached but you won't do it much unless you're a masochist. Just out of...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

You're way too far from me or I'd invite you over but I'm sure there must be somebody in your neck of the woods with Nanocom or similar ... It may be worth finding an independant LR specialist and ask them to run a diagnostic for you before you blow time and money fixing what ain't broke the...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

And I wouldn't until it can be confirmed that it is the 'culprit' .... can you get a diagnostic scan of the ECU errors ?

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

I realise what they say but it really isn't very good at it - for penetrating and lubricating there are much better products. Get yourself a bottle of ZX-54 or Mouse Milk and you'll see the difference. The only way to free it up is a Turbo off and clean it all up inside job - depends how bad...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

And before I switched mine over to VGT mine was easy to move - well easy in that I didn't need a pipe wrench and could do it with fingers. It is probably carboned up. I confess I hadn't spotted the engine light bit but I thought that came on with airflow issues any how? either way if the light...

    Injector Seals - Preventative?

Perfick and much cheaper than the 'official' alternative - many thanks. I appreciate the link to that write up too. I found one on the web that shows the cam locking bolt being used and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how or why since you can't rotate the engine with it in place - the...

    TD5 Defender Limp Mode/Power Loss/Engine Warning Light

Not sure I'd have said that but the other items you should check is the vacuum tube to the turbo actuator, the turbo actuator, the waste gate operation (attached to said actuator) and the little solenoid gizmo and associated wiring that delivers the vacuum to open said actuator - near the front...
