    NFU not such good service

Well my 110 has come up for renewal so I though I would give NFU a try as most people seem to rate them quite well. I called Monday went through the policy details. They gave me a good price so I said I would go ahead. The person I was speaking to on the phone said he would need to run the...

V8 timing. How much too much

Hi all, Got a quick question for those in the know. Ive always timed my 3.5 low comp at 6 degrees btdc. I've ran it at 12btdc before as well with no real difference. Today I decided to see how far I could advance it before it starts pinking then just back it off a tad. Well I got to 28btdc...

    Inner CV joint

Well what a day. A day of woe. Following on from my problems of pressing the drive shaft out of the rear hub to replace a rear wheel bearing, I found someone with a 50ton press which sorted that. Went with a hell of a bang when it started moving. Onto the next problem of pressing the...

Removing rear drive shaft from hub

Hi all, I'm struggling a bit at the moment and I was wondering if any of you have a solution. I'm replacing my rear hand brake mounting plates on my L322. They had rusted through ejecting both hand brake shoe retainers whilst down in Cornwall on Holiday. Anyways I did the offside fine...

How do I work out how early my 110 is.

Hi all, Sorry if it's a stupid question. But is there anyway to work out how early off the production line my 110 is? it's an 83. For example if the last 6 digits of my chassis number is 189000 does that mean it's the 189,000th made, or is it not that simple?

New lifter on an old cam

What are your thoughts about fitting a new hydraulic lifter on an old cam? 3.5 carb. I've got the intake off at the moment to fix oil leaks at the front and rear of the block. Someones been in there before and used no sealant in the block corners. While I'm in there I was wondering wether to...

    Masai Outrigger

Hi all, I need to replace an outrigger. I was looking at the masai one are they any different/ better in build quality? otherwise I'll probably end up with a britpart one. With this in mind the Masai one has to be better by default right? I couldn't find outriggers on the YRM site. I had a nice...

    Valley Pan Gasket 3.5

I've got to replace my valley pan gasket as I've got an oil leak coming from the front seal and clamp. I'm unsure wether to use a composite or tin gasket. I've heard composite seal well but can break down on the lifter side. The tin ones don't have this problem but they can be troublesome to...

    Timing the 3.5

Hi All, I just thought I would check on this. When I set up my timing to the standard 6 degrees btdc it's pretty gutless. I'm able to advance it up to 12 degrees before pinking. Does this sound right? I'm not using the pulley marks. I've marked tdc and I'm using my electronic timing light...

Anyone else go to Old Sodbury Sortout?

I have to say I was a little dissapointed. There was maybe 15-20 (land rover parts) sellers in a massive field. I only ticked one item off of my shopping list. It's the first time I've been. Is it always like this or was it a poor turn out? The auto jumble was pretty big. Ideal if you want...

    EAS problem

Hi all. Ive been around most air suspension problems with my Range Rover now. But this ones new. My hawkeye shows that when the compressor runs to fill the tank it's running but the tank pressure drops off to zero. The compressor sounds laboured as if the pipe is blocked. I pulled the...

    Removing tyres the manual way.

Hi all. I'm getting a bit tired of paying people to remove and refit my tyres when I'm getting tube punctures. 6 in just as many weeks. I've bought a log splitter on the bay with the intention of making it into a bead breaker. What do you think my chances are of getting Michelin 7.50 10 plys...

    2.5na and 3.5 na exhaust

Hi All, I need to replace the exhaust on my 110. I'm starting to get holes appearing faster than I can weld them up. I've been offered a stainless double S system veeeery cheap (not best quality I know) but it's for a 2.5 Does any one know if it will fit my 3.5 v8? it's only middle and back box...

    New shocks Delphi or Koni

Hi all, Gonna treat the 110 to some new shocks as the ones currently fitted are of an unknown quantity, but I'm really undecided on which ones. Really I want to buy once. Fit and forget. I'm getting tired of buying cheaper and having to do the job twice. I've narrowed it down to Delphi de...

110 css self levelling rear dampers

Hi All, I'm thinking of treating myself to some new dampers. I've noticed that a few companies list a rear damper for vehicles fitted with self levelling rear suspension. Which mine has. Question is whats the difference between a standard damper and a unit for self levelling suspension. If...

    What supports the half shaft

Hi all, Sorry this might be a stupid question, but what supports the half shaft side of the CV joint on my 83 110? I'm trying to hunt down a vibration noise from the front axle. I remember on my series 3 it had big roller bearings in the end of the swivel ball to support the axle. But I can't...

Tappety Tappety for a few minutes

Hi all. I've got one lifter on my 3.5 which taps away for a couple of minutes then pumps up no problem when starting from cold. Ive also got a valley gasket oil leak so I was gonna use the opportunity to sort out the lifter. Question is I'm aware of the problems and risk of trying to run in a...
