    2005 TD4 front bumper removal

You really don't need to remove the bumper to change headlights. A small wooden wedge shoved carefully between the bottom of the headlight and the bumper will give sufficient access to those bottom bolts. A long 10mm spanner will reach easily and they only need to be slackened off to remove the...

Towing a caravan with a Freelander

I tried the angle approach but the door hits the jockey wheel. Spacer and a bit of angle I'll try today.

Towing a caravan with a Freelander

Anyone with experience of towing a 'van' with an Al-Ko 'friction type' hitch and a Freelander got around the problem of the lever catching on the spare wheel when hitching and unhitching. Al-Ko do have an alternative handle but it's both expensive and poorly designed. Currently I either remove...

Freelander 1 Who would have believed it.

My mistake - I did both as I said. I certainly don't accept that the tipped test is worthless, it's quick, easy and very quick to see if there is movement or not. I then followed it up with the bar test which is clearly more comprehensive. Apologies to 'Hippo' for any confusion caused...

Thanks for that. I'd just read so many thread talking about it should be warm and not too hot to touch.

Freelander 1 Who would have believed it.

Having found some slight but odd tyre wear on the rear of my Freelander (outer wear on OS and inner wear on NS) I followed 'Hippo's' advice to check the VCU. Tippex test - OK, they moved. Bar with weight test - the wheel turned nicely with 5kg on a 1.2metre bar. Next up is an alignment check...

Just to report that after an oil change and a general check (wiring etc) the gearbox problem (touching a large piece of wood) has gone away. Thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions. Gary.

Freelander 1 Weird Auto Gearbox problem.

I've not tried waiting so will do that. Wife has just gone out this morning and it took 4 attempts before it would engage smoothly. thank you for that link Hippo. I have it booked in next Wednesday at an English guys garage near here. (Andy Cole) He specialises in Land Rover and has full LR...

Freelander 1 Weird Auto Gearbox problem.

The auto box on our Freelander ( 2003 TD4) has developed a weird fault. Sometimes when you select 'D' it goes in with a clunk and if you try to drive it as soon as it changes gear it makes an awful noise like it's trying to engage more than one gear at once. By trial and error I've found that if...

    2002 TD4 Freelander - Fuel Help Please

Yes I know that thanks - the bit of plastic above the sender locates in a slot. I still found it difficult to get the ring to engage. Anyway, all done now so sorted

    2002 TD4 Freelander - Fuel Help Please

Just to put this to bed I now have a sweet-running Freelander. The new in-tank pump and seal arrived this morning and after a bit of a fiddle to screw the securing ring down (is there a knack to this) I ended up with my padded knee pressing down on the pump to get it compressed enough to put...

    2002 TD4 Freelander - Fuel Help Please

With the pump removed it's possible to check inside the tank and it's completely clean and no water visible, even in the recess below where the pump fits (the lowest part of the tank). I've ordered a bacterial treatment which will go in before the new pump arrives. Given that I haven't driven...

    2002 TD4 Freelander - Fuel Help Please

Fresh day - fresh start. 12volt supply to tank pump OK, but not running so I removed the pump. It won't run even with tapping and a direct 12v supply to the actual pump bit. What the heck is that stuff in the bowl - looks like mangled jellyfish. Any recommendations on what are good quality...

    2002 TD4 Freelander - Fuel Help Please

My hearing is not brilliant  but I can't hear the tank pump at all. More expense looming. Is there a test for this pump or anything worth trying before getting the wallet out again ? Thanks guys
