    series 3 carburettor problem

Thanks for that Ron. I would hate to see so much work and parts go up in flames. So I will be on the look out for a new carb.

    series 3 carburettor problem

Evening all. I have almost finshed a six month rebuild of a series 3 and only have one more problem to solve - fuel leaking from the accelerator linkage on the weber 34 1 ch carb. I am sure that this may be the cause of the motor not running perfectly, ie seemingly " missing" every 3-5 seconds...

    coolant dilemma, its a mystery.

Hi It sounds like the head gasket is on its way out. The same thing happened to a mates disco, no heat from blowers, losing coolant. I you are getting air bubbles in the expansion tank it will almost certainly be coming from a failing head gasket. Good news. If you have some tools it is not too...

    Topless pics :D

Go on take the wind screen off! Get some sunglasses on for the flies/grit etc. Its like riding a motorcycle with four wheels only no helmet required. I drove one I rebuilt, all summer last year like this and there's nothing like it. I just covered it with a tarp at night and took it all over...

    Shock absorbers for s3

Hi. After refitting axle and most of the other parts on my latest rebuild, ( 1977 Series 3 swb) I have found that the standard (rtc430) shock absorbers are not long enough by about an inch. I have 9 leaf, what seems to be heavy duty springs on. (they are thicker than the old ones taken off) Any...

    Weld or re-chassis

Hi. Without knowing how good the rest of your landy is, you could buy another vehicle with a better chassis, swap what you want and sell the rest on or keep for spares. 1500 is a lot of money unless you intend keeping the vehicle indefinitely. Cheers

    front spring u-bolts?

Hi all. So just spent last 12 hours getting all the various parts of the front axle ready for refitting on my 1977 series 3 swb petrol rebuild after last two weeks. All went well, including re-manufacturing flexi-brake brackets, shims, kingpin tab washers, and a host of other stuff. Put springs...

Water Ingress headache - Passenger & Drivers footwell

Hi. the problem you are experiencing sounds similar to what i had a year ago - holes in the inner wings. In my case the wing had rusted through near the electrics below the glove box. There was a great hole, after I had the wing off and the chipping hammer out! Soaking carpets and dangerously...

    Special tool 600300

Hi. Don't buy one, bump is right. Absolutely no special tool other than flat screwdriver and hammer needed. I fitted my overdrive the other month and that is all I did it with. The nut on the end of the shaft is so robust anyway, that I would doubt that you could damage it much.

axles, axles, axles.. 300tdi abs to non abs vehicle

Hi. The easiest way to work on your swivels is to undo the nuts holding the entire hub assembly to the axle and pull it out with the half-shaft. then you can work on it comfortably on a bench, referring to whatever manual you may have. I know the whole assembly weighs a lot but I found it far...

    Advice please on gears

Hi, all. I have a 1999 300tdi disco and have done my own maintenance for the last two years of ownership, but would really appreciate any advice regarding my recent problems with gears. Recently it has been extremely difficult to put it into reverse and a little difficult to get 1st gear, (quite...

    Security for a Series 3?

Put an isolator(kill) switch on the battery and a padlock and hasp on the bonnet. Just a matter of unlocking, lifting bonnet slightly and turning switch key/removing and closing/locking bonnet. Also as said before. Fit a cheap steering lock for the druggies/idiots.

Petrol engine manifolds bolt - can't tighten it

I had a similar problem on my series 3 rebuild. I ran a tap down both studs to fit nuts I had , then did them up together, after using exhaust cement to seal joints.- no probs since.

    Series 2a chassis repair

You can fix up almost any chassis if it is not too far gone. Remember those old chassis were made up of strips of steel welded together.

Exhaust broken! Which one should I buy??

If your rear part only fell off as did mine, (without realising it for a few days!) and you search the internet, you will probably find the same site as I did,(sorry can't remember the firm) and get one for £25.00May be only mild steel, but as it is a disco, will probably last as long as many f...
