Well long time since I been here! Just thought Id fly in and pay a visit! How are you all?! Reading the thread and from experience of a similar issue... Thinking of getting a p38 but which one?

Reading this, it's probably wise of me to keep my dirty german thoughts to myself...:D:p If i found the urge somewhere or somehow to dabble back in P38's I would go for a late D2 or Early D3. As mentioned the load space for a huge car is quite disappointing for your camping equipmnent - that...

    5w30 oil asda or halfords

If i may poke my most humblest finger in the air here... :) I always went to the local engineering or motorfactors and picked up 25 litres of Morris Lubricants.MXC A3 15-40 or whatever her tipple was, 2 oil filters and fuel filter for £60. 25 was enough for two changes, hence two filters, plus...

    Battery Drain

Rf receicer is under the trim beneath the rear quarter glass driver side in the boot. Little black box. 5 min job Driver door actuator mechanism probably on the way out and may also contribute to battery drain if it keeps trying to lock itself. Only way to be sure is hook up an ammeter next to...

Airstream Caracan and p38 accident M40 today

Without hijacking the op thread: very well no troubles yet touch wood...and still bags of fun. Drivetrain is holding together well :) Even if one of the two £900 variable vane turbos blew or either of the two FIPS or 10 injectors then they are all covered under my £200 2 year warranty :) i did...

Airstream Caracan and p38 accident M40 today

I don't think so as they make a big point of it in the manual and they gave it a locking button.... and even if i am wrong and it did....do you think you could trust any electrics or automatics on a P38?! :D

may not be the definitive cause of this one but a hit home reminder to always lock the air suspension when towing!

    RF reciever

if you can live with it, just unplug the antenna wire (blue from memory) so it wont pick up any signals unless it's right next to the box. While it's the bodgers fix it worked for me as I couldn't justify the cost against the age of the vehicle. For the sake of holding the fob against the rear...

    Belt change

If you leave everything in place it can be done easily in about 10 mins. Nice long lever on the belt tensioner - I used a 500mm breaker bar to slip into the gap and very gently ease it down (pushing the ram up) just enough to slip the belt off - it's literally 1/2" movement is all thats needed...

Farewell - so i face the vinyl curtain

As promised to those who wanted an update: Deep snow over the peak district, ashbourne - macclesfield, and the Treg didnt even flash...

    Oil / Coolant / HeVac

Coolant 50/50 for good all year round performance - use good quality stuff to spec in rave. Top up with deionised water when needed. Max level checked when cold. (Or the water from your tumble dryer) to avoid scaling. Oil - same spec as per rave most change every 6k to 10k. Synthetic would be...

So after a couple of week of driving, a few hundred miles and few cm of snow and ice... One full tank at 100 litres (P38 DSE 90l) i managed 435 miles brim to brim. A-road at 50mph with cc saw 36mpg.Not much less than the DSE. much more comfortable on the motorway, drives like a golf and sits...
