    Good bye

Dear all I just wanted to say thank you very much for all the help over the last 3 years, i'm off! I have sold the TD5 so wont be needing your expertise anymore. It was a blast, perhaps we'll meet again one day, maybe on the RR pages though!? Before you ask, i've bought a Jag XJ super...

Help, heater hot when moving but cold when in traffic?

I had the same symptoms in the snow at the beginning of this year. After a quick check, I'd been driving around with NO coolant!! Luckily all seems ok now and I check the level like a hawk. Only thing i've been left with is I have had to take the fuse out for the AC fan as it kicked in...

    TD5 Turbo

As thebiglad says, when its operating it sits on a film of oil so a little movement is to be expected.

    Leaking rear door

Move the door catch (the bit on the body) inward a fraction so the door locks tighter into the frame, that normally solves it.

    Rusty window frame

I was chatting to another TD5 owner last weekend and he noticed I had spots of rust on the upright, quarterlight lights sections of both rear doors. He said the rust is caused by the little horizontal bar you've mentioned, it corrodes badly and rust creeps up onto the door frame. So NeilT...

    Snapped key in the ignition

Did the key section snap so you cant see the other end in the barrel or did the key bit separate from the remote fob section (a common issue)?

    Thermostat or water pump????

I had an airlock but that pushed all the fluid out of the system. Since the initial symptoms does the AC fan run all the time and cant be switched off via the dash? That also seems to kick in as a 'save the engine' default setting. I believe you'll need to clear the fault via hawkeye etc to...

    just got a TD5

I agree Biglad, removing the centre silencer doesn't directly aid in performance, it's a personal preference and I wouldn't want to mislead. My TD5 is a manual and therefore I dont experiance the 'drone' you suggest. The cabin noise has increased but only marginally.

    just got a TD5

I agree with all above. Regularly clean the MAP sensor with electrical contact cleaner although blanking the EGR will negate the need to do this. De-cat the exhaust (and remove centre silencer!!!). Also keep MAF and airbox sensor clean.

    dawn chorus

Check the buttons on the steering wheel, they do stick and then start beeping when they want (4am etc etc!!) it's a right pain!!

    White knuckle ride

A large lump of mud stuck on the inside of a wheel caught me out once, at motorway speed the judder was so bad I couldn't hold onto the steering wheel! I looked like a right fool at the tyre centre when they realised that's all it was!!!!!

    Central locking issues.

At first it felt quite odd using the key to unlock a car, reminded me of the good old days!!!

    Central locking issues.

I have the same issue and have been told its the actuator, it's expensive and it is a pain of a DIY job (how much of that is true, I don't know)..........so i've left it and decided to call it a security feature!!

Disco TD5 18" wheels restricted tires

The General AT2 is a fantastic tyre on 255/55/18.

    Fluid leak

Maybe because of the change in weather you have run the AC to help clear the windows and it's condensation that is dripping of the condenser and picking up some dirt???

    Coolant Loss

I notice from your signature that you have removed your EGR. I was going to suggest checking the EGR coolant pipe that runs from the header tank to the EGR cooler (if you have that version fitted). Mine rubbed, split and left me with the same symptoms as you. It might be an airlock somewhere...
