    TD5 Autobox position indicator problem

Took the BCU out and their was blue fur around two of the wire connectors. Cleaned all the connectors with contact cleaner...et voila. Thanks for the info. Appears sorted for now...mind you there is obviously water ingress somewhere. If anyone has experience of finding where the water ingress...

    TD5 Autobox position indicator problem

Got an odd one... Not M&S Autobox functions fine. The gear position indicator on the 'dash' usually reads D or P etc This morning for the first time it read all positions at once, looks like a figure of 8 gone mad. Additionally none of the indicators work. But here is the thing...

    K&N air filter

Good point, when I fitted the new engine I threw away those crappy tin manifold shield and wrapped the manifolds down to the cats, so it does not get 'that' hot under the bonnet.... Here is a snap of my home made K&N filter set up....! (Wire ties are there as a precaution) In asnwer to why I...

    K&N air filter

For sure, however! If my engine bay got up to the temperature needed to cause Kydex to burn, most of the other components under the bonnet would have already ignited. Kydex works at between 165C and 204C Most of the plastic items under the bonnet are thermoformed  I'd better fit an...

Magnets - the new snake oil?

As I mentioned in another thread. A great use for magnets is attach them to your oil filter, have also wired mine on just in case road debris catches it. Ensure during filter changes you leave the magnet attached until after you have removed the oil filter. (Ensures that metal bits stay put...

    K&N air filter

I converted from standard to K&N cone last year. Removed original air box and made an adapter rig to take a universal cone filter / sensor etc. The filter is not shielded and has not presented a problem (fuel economy up approx 2mpg) Mind you , cool air intake is better than hot for...

    Chirping sound on start up?

PS what I also find invaluable is a very strong rare earth magnet strapped to the bottom of the oil filter ;)

    Chirping sound on start up?

Totally agree. Oil is one of the most overlooked of engine components, moreso with diesels.... I use the cheapest oil provided it is up to the appropriate SAE spec and virtually all of them are........and change the oil and filter every 4 > 6k miles.....(As I fitted a new engine 22k miles ago...

    balljoints

Bought replacement ball joints a while back, as their appeared to be a little too much feedback from the steering wheel and after a little research the top of the usual suspects list was the ball joints! But! When I asked the MOT tester to check the ball joints closely (I know him well) he said...

    petrol or diesel?

Never really compared my Rangie to other fuel return figures before but, this is an eyeopener, I always thought diesel P38's stuffed the venerable 4.6 V8. Having seen some of the fuel return figures I do not feel so bad with my 4.6 as it returns between 16.9 to 22mpg (That's stuffing it up...

    4.0 or 4.6 / Gems or Thor...Help, I'm confused

You may be absolutely correct but as one can only comment as a person 'taken in'....!! All I am capable of stating is that three engines went diddly donk....the fourth is purring along 4 years later. Coincidence surely eh!

    4.0 or 4.6 / Gems or Thor...Help, I'm confused

I fitted a new 4.6 short block to my 4.0SE.....'the' only difference between the 4.0 and the 4.6 is stroke length....and the 4.6 is more economical. Academic which one you fit as your ECU and current setup will welcome it gladly.... To protect your investment.....What I would recommend is to...
