To buy or not to buy????

I think you made the right decision to walk away from the first one you described. It sounds a bit abused. Don't be fooled by low mileage when it could have been 49k by a farmer on unmade roads with a couple of bales of hay in the back. Always worth seeing who the previous owner was and trying...

    Freelander1 TD4 Fuel Economy

My 2002 TD4 (manual box) does 37 mpg spot on at a steady 70 to 75mph on a 92 mile round trip each day Merseyside to Manchester. If I take it up to 80 it drinks a LOT more. Although I agree that dropping back your speed will help to reach those better MPG figures I still think you might expect...

    insurance again

Have you tried talking to your existing insurance company that covers your daily drive ? When I bought my Freelander I got some horrendous online quotes. However, my existing insurers said in view of the fact we know you and you have been with us a few years they gave me an introductory no...

    New Freelander2 Fuel consumption

Don't be so cynical. In my experience cars get pretty close to the quoted figure. With my 52 plate Freelander S In the technical data in the back of my owners hanbook for 2.0 litre diesel (manual box) it says 37.2 mpg for combined combined cycle - and surprise, surprise, THAT's EXACTLY WHAT I...

    what's your freelanders height?!

The dimensions including the height should be in the manual and also on many websites with vehicle specifications eg wiki pedia. In my manual (came with 52 plate TD4 S) overall height including roof bars is 1808mm (5 ft 11.2 inch) for a 3 door. and 1828mm (5 ft 11.9 inch) for the 5 door. If the...

    mpg

Checked my MPG just yesterday my 52 plate TD4 (47000 miles) does 37 mpg on mostly motorway use at 3000 rpm (ish) at 70 to 75 mph steady. Compares reasonably ok to my Peugeot 406 2.2 HDI (43.5 mpg) as although the Landy is a smaller engine the Landy is also a lot heavier and slab fronted. 406 is...

    My Freelander makes people sick.

Might post a pic tomorrow but me camera lens needs cleaning - got sticky yellow stuff all over it.

    My Freelander makes people sick.

Have had my 2002 Freelander TD4 'S' since last August. Three different rear seat passengers have complained about being queasy after an hour in the back on motorways and A roads. Obviously any 4x4 is likely to have more pitch and roll than a normal saloon car due to the height and suspension...

    Freelander - Towing Capacity

Hi Tullester, The advice given above is sound - the boat and trailer is way too heavy and I think you need to hire a good sized van or commercial vehicle. If you have any doubts about the advice go to What Tow Car . com who offer a free online "outfit matching" service which gives you instant...

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Took Landy into garage that does my servicing. He re-connected battery and the tailgate window went down (as it is meant to) and he took it back up on the dash switch. He connected ammeter between battery and clamp and found constant 7 amp drain. He went to gather up his test gear and did a...

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Hi Ian, No I didn't touch the fused links as the manual warns against messing with them - so there is still plenty of scope for problems to investigate. Probably leave them to the professionals though - but do they just pull out ?

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Getting nowhere with this at the moment. I tried a variation of the bulb test - not sure if my method is valid, I made up a test lead with a 12v 30W bulb cable and 2 croc clips. Attached one end of test light to battery + terminal. With not having another pair of hands to assist I removed 3...

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Removing the 3 fuses made no difference - fresh charged battery sucked dry by morning as usual. The reason my old Gunsons Digimeter was reading 0.00 is because the current drain blew the fuse in the meter. Continuity tested the 10Amp fuse and it's dead but I will stick a new fuse in sometime...

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Digimeter only has one setting for amps - marked max 10A. It should be autoranging. May treat myself to a new meter from Maplins tomorrow lunchtime. This Gunsons is 20 years old so I guess it doesn't owe me anything. Thanks for maintaining interest in the thread Mad Hat Man.

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Well - took out totally dead battery from yesterday and stuck in a fresh one. Checked starts & runs fine. Confirmed that it has got heated mirrors (roasty toasty after a couple of minutes) but I locked it up and left it 10 minutes and heated mirrors were stone cold so I guess that's not the...

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Thanks for all the good advice guys - I am going to work through the suggestions this evening. Have been in work 50 miles away all day and limited amount of time tonight in the dark but I am going to make a start.

    Freelander drains battery overnight

Can anyone offer some ideas regarding severe battery drain. My Freelander TD4 SE 2002 (manual gearbox) starts and runs perfectly on a fresh charged battery and all equipment and every switch seems to operate ok - all seems normal. Next morning nothing - no interior lights, no dash display, no...
