Be very carefull, i put 2 new tyres on the rear last month, they were much different in size to the front and it shagged the rear diff, thats what i know, what other damage has been caused who knows!

This morning me and my mate removed the propshaft, there is hardly any play in the drive shafts, the car drives spot on, recon diff on its way, soon all will be good again!

You are gonna tell me if they are still connected to the diff they havent popped out arent you :o

Yes it smelled of gas, i had a pair of new tyres put on the back about a month ago, would this cause it to blow a hole in the diff?

I have had another look this morning, it looks like something inside has broken. Im now worried about what could have caused it. Could the VCU have locked up and broken the diff?

What about epoxy resin, ie Milliput?

I have found what looks like a puncture hole in the side of the diff! Oil is all over the drive and the car stinks! Its a 2004 TD4, its done 85000 miles. Can this be welded up or will i need a new diff? Also can i drive it? Or do i have to get it towed to a Garage?? Cheers!

I had a similar problem at similar miles, turned out to be prop shaft mounts!

If you are only doing low mileage then you might be ok but do lots of research. Dont expect explosive performance, the auto box hampers it apparently so they say i do believe!

I once went to look at a facelift 1.8 at the local landrover dealer. I asked about the head gasket problem, they told me that they used a different gasket on the newer 1.8's. So we bought one, it was ok just expensive to run. We had it 18 months and had no problems, still it was only 4 months...
