    clock & radio screen fadeout

I had an issue where the light kept going out because the bulb fitting is rubbish. a bit of copper grease to aid contact worked a treat.

    Identifying a noisy tappet...

My dad told me that you can check which one is noisy by putting a long screwdriver to your ear and putting it on the tappets in order. Also works with fuel injectors apparently. Haven't tried it myself but i'd be interested to hear whether anyone else has found it to work.

    3 sodding amigos!

The switch is the yellow one on the gear stick. You can slip off the rubber gaitor and check that the wires are connected to the switch. if you still have no joy, might be worth checking the codes for where to go, or take the bulbs out of the dash :)

Whats the average mileage on K Series and V6 Freelander head gaskets, clutches etc ?

I had HGF on my LR at about 100K, think it was the first time. I changed the gasket, bolts and fitted the PRRT and, crucially, the oil rail. I think that most of the successive failures are where the oil rail isn't done, as this stiffens the engine up and stops it happening. No issues since, it...

    Buying advice

A good sign to look for on rear tyres is a pronounced ramp where the rear tyres are going faster than the rear and are being dragged round. Don't have any photos but you'll know it when you see it. If the VCU is over 70K and hasn't been changed then expect it to be duff. £250 for a recon. unit...

    Freelander 1.8xei 2004 Head Gasket ??

I suspect the mechanic diagnosed that it was a hippo and a leaking head gasket is a pretty good bet, whether it cures the fault or not. Pretty easy job, took me a day's work including getting the head skimmed, and about £150. Buy decent parts and replace the oil rail which goes in the sump. A...

    gearbox

Have the same problem here, I wondered whether it's worth trying to change the bearings but as a replacement gearbox is only ~£100 probably not worth it.

Did you change the oil rail and fit the PRRT the first time around?

    HELP !!!!!!!!!!!! k series

I am currently experiencing the same issue - feels like it's hesitating as if it's not advancing and at higher revs it takes off. Recently change the leads and thought that cured it but it hasn't. I'm now suspecting that it's a blocked injector or another fueling sensor type issue.

    Cenrtal locking door solonoids

Having the same issue - seen some stuff about replacing with a maplins servo but it all seems pointless when you can replace with another part for £35. I've personally opted for a new one and i'll be getting a passenger side one soon as well probably. Surprisingly simple to do except removing...

    gearbox removal

get a large slide hammer on it and make sure all of the bolts are undone - there are about 86 and they're mainly located in silly places that you can't see and need to be Mr Tickle to reach.

    K series Freelander Non start

It doesn't surprise me - i've been saying for years that with £200 worth of mods the K series engine can be cured of it's HG failing ways and if you want a cheap runaround then it actually makes financial sense to have one. Might be worth getting a compression test done on it to test for HGF...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

I'm on 115K, the head went a little while ago but that was simple enough to fix. Removed VCU, sunroof broken, central locking on it's way out, three amigos on, gearbox is rattling like a bag of spanners and it's hesitating so i'm guessing injector or suchlike. On the whole i've enjoyed owning it...

    Headlight Warning Buzzer

I had this - it was a blown fuse - number 16 I think. Check them all out, quite simple.

Where the feck is my water going???

It using water could well be a sign of impending HGF, keep a close eye on it and change it at the first hint of trouble. I found that mine was sporadically using water beforehand. Make sure you change the oil rail and fit the PRRT too, this will make it much less likely to happen in future.

    Somethings Not Right!?

I have also done mine lately, changed the oil rail and fitted the PRRT too, just about to fit a new header tank as well. Losing a little bit of water but i think it's through the header. On the whole, very good - about a month and a couple of thousand miles.

Did you get the oil rail changed and the remote thermostat installed?

    Landrover Virgin info

On the movement issue, check the engine tie bar which is at the right-hand rear of the engine. You need to remove the bellypan but it's easy to find. It's a common failure and will stop the engine rocking laterally.

A good news story on a petrol Freelander

As i've said many times before, my 1.8 is fine, i've replaced the clutch and the head gasket with related paraphernalia and i've spent quite a bit of time fettling it. The upside is that the fixes are generally cheap and easy to sort out and you'd expect some issues from a car that's done 110K...

Head gasket change now there is a knocking noise

Hiya, I replaced my HG last week and found a few other issues whilst doing it, such as the tie bar bush. If you replaced the oil rail then you had to remove the bracket, are you sure that it was put back correctly? Had you put plenty of oil in the lifters before refitting them?
