    High pressure fuel pump

I had an experience of a runaway diesel on a dumper I was driving many years ago. It suddenly started revving its tits off, we all stood watching it (about 50 yards away) waiting for the bang, but it never did. After a while one of the old boys jumped on it, stuck it in gear, stood on the brake...

    High pressure fuel pump

Sorry chaps, I thought that the 'search' that was done when I started writing this thread would include all the info I have now found.

    High pressure fuel pump

First the good news, my 55 plate TD4 passed the MOT with no problem :clap2:, however while carrying out the service he found the high pressure pump has a small leak, that will probably get worse in time. I am wondering if this is a known failure or a rare event, and whether to take a chance and...

Rebuild project thread - many photos.

Those pictures bring back memories, I used to do a lot of welding of cars in the mid eighties. Lots of Leyland and Ford models from the seventies and a regular Moggie Minor every year for a bit more patchwork. One Cortina Mk3 I did had 3 sets of oversills welded on, other than that it looked...

    pre fuel rail sensor

Another one for the fuel pressure sensor loom, any one who gets low power and engine management light should try changing the loom first, £30 for new parts, half an hour to fit, cheap fix if it works.

    3 garages no wise

Try the replacement loom for the fuel pressure sensor, cheap fix if it solves problem.

Possible VCU problem - South Wales

No point in going backwards in a straight line, you need to put it on full lock, one way or other, do not touch throttle, and then lift clutch and move in as tight a circle as possable still on tickover. If the VCU is seized or close to it, it will feel as though the brakes are dragging, trying...

Flat spot at 3600 rpm after service...

Petrols no good, mines a diesel, so it wouldn't work at all ;)

Flat spot at 3600 rpm after service...

I have had a similar problem with my 55 plate Td4 for a while now, pump changed twice with filter, and MAF once due to a latched fault, still with the problem. I am now starting to think turbo, either solenoid or over pressure sensor (if there is one) allowing the vanes to drop to neutral with...

    TD4 new problem

I thought it was the earlier TD4 that had the in tank pump

    TD4 new problem

Pressure sensor loom replaced about 18 months ago. I believe it only has one pump, near side wheel arch, high pressure. My man has it now for MoT, going to try computer connected on first start of the day and see if it gets any readings, he also suggested it may be a injector problem. I will let...

    TD4 new problem

OK more info, latched maf fault so replaced it with ebay item (cheap so not too bad if it does not fix), which it didn't. Did a 10 mile trip into town, no problem, coming back started to die and pick up around 3000 revs in any gear. Got it onto driveway and did a few tests, it still cut out and...

    td4 missing and blue smoke!

Before you go for any thing more expensive, change the fuel pressure loom, about £35 and takes half hour to fit, tends to cure multiple evils and could be the cause of the latched pressure fault.

    TD4 new problem

Further info now I have changed the pump and filter. Problem still there. Only have the problem on the initial start each day but haven't tried if it has been left all day since initial start. Starts as per normal, first time, if you then hold the throttle at around mid position the engine...

    TD4 new problem

Hello again boys and girls, a new problem has started on my 55 plate TD4. Engine starts as normal, and reversing(slowly) off the driveway also ok, but when you go to pull away its almost as though the engine stalls and then goes and stalls again, similar the a cold petrol engine with no choke...

    Alternator new

A lot of years ago we had a guy who would test and fix alternators while you waited. To buy one from a motor factors was (then) about £30-50, he would give your own one back for a max of £10. I watched him one day and to replace packs and bearings was so simple. Sadly he died a few years ago and...

    Three amigos and then some

Apart from the Amigo's, the limp mode reoccurrence on mine was cured by changing the pressure switch loom.

A nightmare trip under the bonnet

I would also recommend a trip to Halfords, they have some good half price deals at the moment, and a life time guarantee included. A set of spanners, 6 to 32mm for £40, a set of 12 ratchet rings for something similar and the socket sets for £60 ish. Just about every thing you will need for run...
