Allen keys to remove as OP said, you could buy a connects2 like did which allows you to use an ipod or other mp3 player to the head unit by selecting the MODE button, it works by tricking the headunit into thinking there is a multichanger attached, they are about 25 quid, this is assuming that...

i dont think there a massive differnce between the aftermarket jobbies, your td4 will be a two tail pipe version and all of the aftermarket ones i have seen are single pipe,which was the later spec by LR, just make sure they get the right one for the td4 as it is a larger bore than the other...

Just goes to show that someone who knows what they are talking about is usually the best route to getting your problems fixed. Too many garages just want to throw parts at problems. Well done!
