Fuse in glovebox OK. I shall get some wd40 next. I can fold them in and out manually, and theer's not much resistance.. it doesn't sound like there's a motor connected to the action. Should there be some whirring sound when I move them by hand?

Pretty sure. The aircon has been out of action with no gas for ages, and we just had it refilled. The psstt started after the refill. I also remember it doing it before the gas ran out last year. So, on balance I think this is it. Also, EAS working perfectly :)

Is there a pressure relief valve in the aircon? When its cooling on a warm day, it does this loud PSHHT sound a couple of times at the start of each trip.

Had it trailered to the garage, where they were sure it needed a new battery. So that went on. Car came home, and worked perfectly for 12 days. Then about 80 miles into a journey the instruments went off. I left the engine running and on the way home they came back on again. In the morning, all...

Ah, sorry, yes I checked all the fuses. I also jiggled all the relays.
