    Rear diff housing, HELP

Hi sid, this happened to mine too. I had 2 attempts to fix - the first I used fibreglass repair and it was a disaster! So don't do that. 2nd attempt was to use bridging compound, which has strands of fibreglass in it and is used to bridge holes in rusty bodywork usually. It comes as a lump...

    brake efficiency

10 weeks later and I finally got round to having a look... I think you were spot on stig, the pistons are in a mess. I think I might have made one of 'em worse too! The pads were stuck, but I managed to get one out finally and tried pushing the piston back into the caliper - wasn't budging...

    200tdi diff lock

Sorry I didn't mean to annoy you guys. I just read my post again and it does sound a bit too much like a statement of fact that can't possibly be wrong, which was unintended. I was just trying to figure out why what you said didn't fit with my (limited) experience or understanding of how...

    200tdi diff lock

Don't see why that would make a difference, so long as the main box is in neutral - you're just turning a few extra cogs. All we're trying to test here is that the 2 propshafts are connected which as far as I know has got nowt to do with the H/L/N setting of the transfer box...

    200tdi diff lock

When I tested mine, I jacked up ONE front wheel only. Seemed to behave as I expected - couldn't turn it with difflock engaged, could turn it with difflock disengaged. An easier way to test - find some loose ground (gravel is ideal) - let the car drive along in low first and do a full lock...

    dealer honesty

Look for new sealant where the metal cover goes over the cam belt. That's what I'd look for on my 200tdi anyway...

    Clunk clunk clunk!

I sometimes (quite rarely) get one or more loud cracking noises - seems to be mostly when turning left on full lock if the back wheels are higher than the front, for example if driving down a sloped driveway and then turning sharply left onto a flat road. Could this be a CV joint? Does this...

New noise on 200tdi, gbox,tx,clutch.. Advise pse

I had a rattly noise like you describe on my clutch at one point but not the whining, you might be able to find the thread if you search. I had mine replaced in the end because I had to have my transfer box repaired anyway so while it was out, I figured may as well get it done at the same time...

Rear Diff Problem - Im a noob please help!

There are some other threads kicking about dealing with fixing rusted diff covers. The favourite fix seems to be sticking a blob of something called "chemical metal" over the hole. When mine went on the bottom, I drained the diff, blasted all the rusty crap off - luckily there was some metal...

Help !! my Diff light has come on

Yes that's right for checking if the diff lock is engaged. Have a look at this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/difflock-broken-37249.html And have a look at the pictures. The switch is on top of the box, connected to the transfer lever. When diff lock not engaged the metal...

    Newbie's 200 TDI

It's worth doing a service on it anyway if you just bought it and there are two fuel filters - one in the engine bay that you replace every 12k and another underneath at the back that needs cleaning every 12k. Also by doing this you will eliminate things as the cause of your problem. I've...

Help !! my Diff light has come on

I had a problem with my diff lock after my clutch was changed and I found the linkage and selector switch on top of the transfer box wasn't reassembled correctly. Search the forum, you should find it and there are pictures that may help too. Check the linkage from the transfer box lever and...

    remote locking

start by looking at this website: Remote Key Fob Replacement I think there are others too, also try searching the forum. Depends what model disco you've got as to hard much of a pain in the neck / expensive it is to sort.

    brake efficiency

Dunno, that's partly what confused me - the wording sounds all wrong to me but I copied down exactly how it was written on the paper. I know the handbrake is ok anyway because I parked on a very steep slope recently and the disco was still there when I got back!

    brake efficiency

Thanks Lee. I know the brake fluid hasn't been done while I've had the disco, and that's been 18 months, so it's probably due a change.

    my first landy

I've got a 200tdi and it's great but if I were buying now, I'd go for a 300tdi. Whatever you do, don't get an Mpi (a 2.0 litre petrol engine I think) - by all accounts they suck.

    brake efficiency

Hi all, Just been looking through my paperwork etc for the disco and found my last mot advisory page (orange) and one of the things on it says Brakes Advisories: RBT Service Brake Efficiency: 50% and then further down says Service brake Your vehicle has only just met the required...

    Disco diesel noise

Well I had a listen under the bonnet and revved it up and I think mine is ok, it is loud but it runs smoothly, there is no banging, clattering, squeeling or anything.

    Disco diesel noise

    Is it a 200tdi or a 300tdi? Mines a 200tdi and it's noisy but I thought they were all noisy. As long as it's not a metallic banging/clattering it's ok isn't it???

    Seized Diff Lock

The gaiters on the gear sticks come off by unclipping around the edges and then unscrewing the stick and gaiter until they come off. But you won't see much just by doing that because of all the sound insulation - to get a proper look you'll need to take out the centre console so you can lift...
