    TD4 HP pump Issue

Soon after getting my FL1 Td4 I was worried about the poor pull away from staitionary. Reading some of the posts here it looked to me like the MAF could be playing up but I took it to the stealers for a diagnostic check. They came back with a HP pump failure, took it back to the garage I got it...

    Just got my new freelander

Bit of a step up (literally) from the MR2 to a Freeby. Watch out for the speed as well, the lower the car the faster you think you are going so the converse is true. Practice makes perfect of course so you are going to have to crowbar him out of the driving seat as much as possible. One...

    Fitting a Synergy2 - Oops!

Just done the reverse to trade in the motor for a new one. Forgot how much of an improvement the synergy made. I think the old Bosch MAF is on the way out and it was really flat on pulling away.

    preparing panels for painting!

As RH has pointed out Ally is too soft and sand is too coarse. You can use plastic beads instead or if you are lucky a good high pressure Pressure Washer with a spin head will lift paint.

    New car

 Digging around elswhere it would appear that for a while LR were offering DAB as an option but couldn't provide/didn't work. Still doesn't explain why my actual unit has the "Digital" legend on the FM button and is not as per THE MANUAL. Apparently Alpine have a proprietary M-Bus...

    New car

Just picked up my 57 plate FL2 TD4 XS:D:D:D. Couple of questions on the audio system. The manual shows two types of FM select button, one with just FM on it and the other with FM and DAB. My one has FM and Digital but it is not DAB. Anybody have an idea of the significance. It...

    Trading in my 03 Td4 for an FL2 tomorrow.:D

    Freelander stereo and speaker upgrade.

They are a 16cm speaker but have limited depth due to the window drop. One problem is the mounting screws are not equidistant around the circumferance and the door skin pressing makes it difficult to fit ones with a round flange properly. One of the key point for good car audio is the...

    Looking at an FL2

Found a Td4 at a non frachise car lot, 07 XS Auto. Looks generally good, no scratches and bumps, interior tidy etc. Two issues that worry me however. More oil than I like on the gearbox and the tray under the engine although the salesman thought it might be spillage from the oil filler (why...

    gear problems

Almost certainly a clutch problem. There is sufficient drag from the clutch when trying to change gear with the engine running to spin up the gearbox and prevent the syncro rings allowing engagement. Pre-selecting the gear and then starting will force the driven plate to slip within the...

    12 v power connectors

I've seen several references about using multiple switches or connectors to try and increase the current capabilities of a solution. In this case initially it was suggested to use 2 30A connectors to allow 60A of load. I am glad to see that this has been dropped in this case but in general this...

    Fuel Rail Sensor

I think there was a general issue with this sensor connection and LR brought out a mod kit of a new sensor and harness to solve it. I would agree that replacing the sensor altogether for what is just a corroded plug seems a bit overkill but LR were looking for a reliable fix. Apart from doing...

2002 TD4 Steering Wheel Radio Control Switches - aftermarket/Replacement Harness

I replaced my Becker with a Pioneer unit and so had to solve the same problem. The kit I purchased was effectively in three parts. The control unit was common to a number of vehicles and consisted of a small box to be tucked behind the radio. There was a head unit adapter lead to suit the...

    freelander flood driving!!!

Apart from that all tyres that are directional have an arrow indicating the normal direction of rotation (unless you're Italian) moulded into the side of the tyre.

    Problem with side steps

I do use mine occasionally to get onto the roof rack but they are fairly pointless. Especially as they thin down to nothing under the front doors and thats where the standard roof bars are.
