34 Land Rover Monthly/Owner - Free in Cornwall

Morning Ladies & Gents. Not posted on here for a while, been working abroad and without a car/Landy for a while. I'm moving over to The Netherlands permanently so I've been getting rid of a lot of stuff. I've got 34 Land Rover Owner/International magazines for sale on eBay but happy to give...

Freelander 1 FREELANDER 1 (1.8 Petrol) Vs TD4 Freelander (Diesel)

I agree the 0-60 of the TD4 auto is slow, but I don't really ever consider 0-60 speeds. 0-30 is more useful for me to consider how nippy a car is. I'm not one to gun it from a standing start to 60 & most of us don't do that unless joining a dual carriageway from stand still. The TD4 auto was...

Freelander 1 FREELANDER 1 (1.8 Petrol) Vs TD4 Freelander (Diesel)

We had a manual 1.8 K series and an auto TD4 and I must say the TD4 seemed better overall. The 1.8 just seemed underpowered in comparison to the TD4. Even with the auto box on the TD4 it felt quicker about town & generally a more refined engine. We never had issues with the K-series with regards...

    starting problem

Had the same on my TD4 and it was an injector. Mine got worse exactly like yours did until it would only start with easi start. Once running it would run all day and I did a lot of driving without turning off the engine, however once off it wouldn't start without easi start. I'd say check...

    Hmmm suspect me thinks...

Classic. Head gasket is on the way out, meaning blown already and coolant will be topped up just before you arrive. Also prop removed for "economy". See that all over ebay. Shocking for unsuspecting punters.

Oil spitting out of screw hole!

I thought mine was knackered too when I left this bolt out. Turns out it's the same in all TD4s. Just put the bolt back in and it's fine.

Feels like driving with brakes on

Are the tyres all the same make and model? Also are all the pressures equal? Sounds like the VCU is locking up keeping power transmitted to the rear when it shouldn't be. Check the pressures but the damage may have been done now.

    me new TD4

Bargain. Time for me to trawl through the classifieds. Best of luck with your next jobs, look forward to seeing the progress.

    me new TD4

Just curious, did you get it for a good price? Keeping an eye out for a very similar car to bring back upto scratch myself & prices seem quite high at the moment.

No problem at all, was a taxing translation job.

Had to read that twice. Wondered why he was "scraping the nail off ****". After much consideration surely he isn't scraping **** off a nail, he is scrapping (two P's) the pile (nail?) of (off) **** and he won't (want) be sucking up to any other forums (clubs). Epic!

    help help help

But wait, aren't people supposed to spend their weekend helping others troubleshoot & repair their cars, for free & then be told how rubbish the 'club' is because the problem hasn't been fixed. Some people, we better give him his refund fellas, can't have unhappy 'Customers'

    freelander vs discovery

I nearly bought a P38 last year, it was the 4.6 V8. Not sure if that was a particularly poor example but it felt like I was driving on jelly compared to my hippo. Country lanes on the test drive felt lethal. Also driven a few L322 and I think they handle much better than the P38 on country roads...

    Manual vs. Auto

That's a lot of miles without a change. When my fluid came out at 60k it certainly wasn't the cherry red colour the new stuff was.

    Manual vs. Auto

Keep telling him that but he spends next to nothing keeping this thing on the road. Astonishing it's still going. Definitely not a friday car. He is still convinced it's sealed for life so no amount of me taking the **** will change his mind. Stubborn tight bastard as he is.

    Manual vs. Auto

I've a friend who tows a fairly large caravan with a TD4 Auto. Never had any issues. He is up around 130k miles on original box and to my constant amusement still running the original ATF. that stuff must be cooked but he has never touched it and still smooth. My last one by comparison, never...

    Dan's Freelander

Looks like a nice example. Just had a look at the rest of the pics on their website. Just need to pray for some of the white stuff in the coming weeks now.

Looks like a good dusting of the white stuff. Really like driving in the snow.

    Manual vs. Auto

It's true that Land Rover seem to be favouring the auto. I personally love Autos. If I'm buying a sports car it will be manual, anything else I'd rather have an auto. Had a Cooper S in manual which was great fun but a pig on a journey. In comparison my TD4 auto was wonderful on journeys...

    Manual vs. Auto

Thanks for that. Good to see some folk getting decent mileage out of an auto box. I do around 20k a year too so anything to save the left leg in traffic. I was just curious to see views from both camps. My current merc is an auto, 10 years old with 90k on the clock. The c230 Kompressor is a very...
