Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

That is old, not seen remote voltage sensing for a very long time. All alternator regulators sense at the alternator now.

    P38A EAS question

A dodgy height sensor will not always show a fault code. Erratic operation may show up on live data. If the car doesn't drop overnight with the EAS relay removed or the rear hatch ajar, I would say your valve block is OK. If you have a specific worry about it, Replacing the O rings is not a...

    L494 strange warning light.

When cars were a mode of transport rather than toys full of gimmicks, there was much less to read in the owners hand book.

Look at your second photo. it show "Go To" and below it gives the 4 height buttons. Be a good idea to read the EAS diagnostic instructions

Range = 55 miles, I don't suppose it's a low fuel warning by any chance?

    P38A EAS question

Use the diagnostics to send it to wade height, then drop it to normal height and see what you get. The readings are not far of the calibration figures so I suspect all is OK.

You are right, even the diagnostic page says RRSport.

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

An alternator under load takes a fair bit of power but with a hulking great V8 driving it, I wouldn't expect much of a drop in revs really. I have no idea if the drop in revs you are experiencing is normal for that engine, needs someone who knows the Classic to comment really.

A service doesn't mean much, at that mileage with that type of use, and with a shifting problem, if the box isn't knackered now, it very soon will be.

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

Put load on the engine and if it's not making enough power to cope with the load, the revs will drop. For example, on one of my cars with electronic injection, switching on any load causes the ECU to increase idle revs. As you say, the ignition light should come on with the key in the second...

My old Transit doesn't move very often these days and that's on Google Earth too.

Too expensive IMO. Unless the gearbox has been replaced, you are likely to be in for a replacement at that mileage, the GM box rarely lasts beyond 90K miles. For what te gearbox and rust will cost you to fix, you could find a better one.

Classic 1982 Range Rover 3.5 V8 CHARGING ISSUES

The thin wire being disconnected might account for the ignition light but if it's the connection I think it is, the light should not come on at all. 14 volts is OK but a bit on the low side for a modern Lead/Calcium battery. If the revs drop when the alternator is under load, that is down to...

L405 Vibration. Love this car, best advice?

I certainly would not do a gearbox flush, a change by all means. I'm surprised at the idea the crank seal is leaking, the mileage is not high, if there is no oil on the ground I'd leave well alone, indeed the oil might not be from the crank seal, small leaks get blown around.

Aircon compressor not cutting in is likely to be either age, just needs a re-gas, or a leak. Needs a leak test and if none found a re-gas with leak detector dye included.

    P38A EAS question

Vehicle has moved can be ignored, it just means that has been a height adjustment after the ignition was turned off.

Took the HEVAC out of my LHD P38 for test purposes and to replace the ZEBRA strip.
