    The Discovery 4

There will be enough of them sold to make them servicable by the average owner in years to come. It will be interesting to see if the disco 3 will be as popular as the 200/300 for offroading when they become affordable to the relevant owners.

New alternator - wrong rev reading.

Right... New problem! Just about coming to the end of my tether with problem after problem, there isn't much more to go wrong. When I turn the ignition on I have no battery light, still have oil light which goes out when I start up. It starts and runs fine and is charging the battery ok...

New alternator - wrong rev reading.

That's it, the pulley. Just been thinking while having my tea, thats was the difference between the two. The one on the re-con was bigger. I'll swop them over when I get chance. Cheers.

New alternator - wrong rev reading.

Changed the alternator today for a recon one. It's cured my intermitant rev counter but now it under reads. It ticks over around 500 rpm (which it obviously isnt) and 2k rpm feels like around 3k rpm. All wires are present and correct. Any ideas:confused:

300 tdi centre box removal (straight through).

It made alot of difference to mine as it was blocked/full of mud and was preventing the turbo from spooling up. My centre box is damaged and leaking, so I can either weld it up or replace it with pipe. Just want to know if it will make it sound like a nova with a cherry bomb on.

300 tdi centre box removal (straight through).

Anybody done it and just kept the back box? Are they noisy or just throaty like the TD5's? My box is battered and has a hole in it, I have some heavy duty flexi-pipe that I was gonna weld in its place but don't want it to be defening. I have already removed the CAT (by cutting a flap in the CAT...

Fitting a boost gauge. Simple? Nope. Fail!

Thats where I piped my boost gauge through. Got the pipe, tee'd off the pipe on the turbo, routed it, removed the clock and fitted the boost gauge. Took 15 mins and all I needed were a pair of snips and a screwdriver:D No need for drilling things:p:rolleyes:

to space or not to space THAT is the question

I was getting wheel spacers for my 300 until last week. After a days offroading one of the discos rear wheel CAME OFF... ON THE MOTORWAY! He was very lucky. It sheared the studs, he has wheel spacers. I'm not going to bother.

    shock for disco

yep...ok. If you are using your disco offroad you will probably end up replacing it quite regular.

    Sorry

tdi's... yep. 1.8t petrol... nope. I love the way the vw turbo petrol engines drive but I do too many miles to have one. I had a seat ibiza cupra which was remapped from 150 bhp to approx 225 bhp. A cracking engine but just too thirsty for 15k a year.
  13. D

    Sorry

Alot of the vw/skoda/seat range have six speed box's. I've had 1.8t's(150bhp as standard, apart from the anniversary golf's and some bora's and passat's which are 180bhp etc)/1.9tdi's (of various bhp's) the 1.8 turbo's don't return 38 mpg as standard nevermind with a remap running 260bhp.

Disco Spares - what do you carry when you go laning?

Heavy duty tie wraps.... a must for any bodger, *ahem* offroader. Full tool kit Serpentine belt fluids; brake, oil, water spare wheel!!

    shock for disco

Any really... britpart, bearmach or gaz. If you are using offroad you will probably damage it and end up replacing anyway.
  16. D

    Sorry

I reckon you've got your sums a bit wrong there mate... you wouldn't get 38 mpg if you cruised everywhere at 55mph in 6th gear from a 1.8t if it's standard never mind 260 bhp, regardless of who's map you've got. Those vw/skoda ecu mpg counters don't tell the truth you know;)

disco lives offroad as much as on, help please.

Very very funny... Laughed till my ribs hurt. Perhaps a bit of help and seriousness for the bloke :)

Wrong oil in the transfer and gearbox.

Nothing at all... reading the forum, at least I know I'm not alone:D

Wrong oil in the transfer and gearbox.

Thanks for the replys. I'm gonna drop the oils out and either swap them (depending on losses/spillage/contaminiation) or replace them. More cost:doh: Its owes me a small fortune this month:( Note to self: Must try harder:rolleyes::D

Wrong oil in the transfer and gearbox.

Right, I've f**cked up. I bought the oils to do my box's and diffs. 80/90 for the diffs and transfer box and mtf94 for the gear box (300tdi manual). In a mad rush ive put the mtf in the transfer box and the 80/90 in the gearbox. I know im a plank:doh: I was thinking about leaving the 80/90...
