SIII - Brake warning light issues

Sorted! I couldn't work out that W2 was the relay body and not a spade connector 🙄 All working now, thanks everyone for advice and especially @mystery for diagrams!

SIII - Brake warning light issues

My relay doesn't have a w2 spade connector, only W1, C1 and C2. I can hear it click when 12 volts is put through W1 but the bulb doesn't light up. The bulb comes on if I put the other end of the W1 red and white wire on the stage 2 live from the ignition barrel.

SIII - Brake warning light issues

Cheers, my relay only has c1, c2 and W1, so do I just earth to c1? This is the wiring that was on the relay before I took it out.

SIII - Brake warning light issues

Hi all, Been rewiring my 1983 SIII 109 diesel, using Autosparks looms and the Haynes Book of Lies  Everything is working except for the brake warning light, which I have not been able to get to work properly. It's the self-testing type, with a square "BRAKE" warning lamp which should...

1983 Land Rover SIII 109 diesel truck rebuild

More progress despite the weather: Manifolds off and cleaned. Engine paint is in surprisingly decent condition... ...although it's a bit oily inside. Chassis in engine bay painted as well as the original white paint cleaned up I flushed loads of rubbish out of the radiator, and soldered up a...

1983 Land Rover SIII 109 diesel truck rebuild

Hello all, it's been a while since I posted anything on here, but I have been keeping busy with the project. Here's some of the ongoing work: - Removed the floor to repair and repaint the footwells and bulkhead - Replaced the chequerplate [!] tub floor with the original floor and wheelarches...

1983 109 diesel wiring harness - which one?

Another question - is there any supplier of SIII wiring harness I should look out for? Either one worth buying or one to avoid.

1983 109 diesel wiring harness - which one?

Thanks, that dashboard diagram is very useful! I take it the low fuel light has a positive to the fuel sender and an earth somewhere? Also the heater plug light has the same wires as the choke light? Hopefully I should be able to make one good panel out of two knackered ones 🤔

1983 109 diesel wiring harness - which one?

Yep, that's what I think it is at least. On my spare instrument panel it's blanked off with a bit of plastic. This one doesn't work either as the bulb has probably blown.

1983 109 diesel wiring harness - which one?

I've seen the same looms for sale by Craddock, Autosparks and Britpart

1983 109 diesel wiring harness - which one?

Hi all, I'm about to replace all the wiring in my '83 diesel 109 truck and have come across several different looms available. I'm not sure which one [if any] is the right one, as electrics are not my strong point! For example, there is a July 1980 - January 1983 harness [PRC2533], and a...

Gatwick Airport Series IIIs - any info/pics?

Hi, Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes... So I have been working on my Series III 109 truck for just over 2 years now, and have known for a while that it was based at Gatwick Airport for much of it's working life. However, except for a couple of undated receipts from...

Battery connected wrong way - How much damage?

Thanks everyone, I have disconnected the alternator, the engine now starts and everything works perfectly. The multimeter shows an open circuit with the battery terminals disconnected. I'll have a look at fixing the alternator, if not then I'll have to lighten my wallet

Battery connected wrong way - How much damage?

Hi all, Went to move my SIII 109 diesel, and [stupidly] touched the leads onto the battery terminals the wrong way round. Obviously there was a loud bang and some sparks, and I quickly took the leads off. However, since this incident there is now a dead short across the positive and negative...

1983 Land Rover SIII 109 diesel truck rebuild

Hi all, long time no see :) It's been a while since I've been on LZ due to a combination of college work and lost passwords, but the Series III has been progressing steadily. I have stopped for the winter as we have had some awful weather and my workshop isn't big enough for a Land Rover (yet!)...

    SIII diesel thermostat woes...

I think the water pump is alright as no untoward noises coming from the bearings or pulley, and I'm not losing any coolant. Hopefully it's nothing major

    SIII diesel thermostat woes...

Same situation here really, I'm going to go out this weekend without a thermostat and see what happens. Come winter it'll hopefully get parked in a nice warm garage so no thermostat shouldnt be a problem.
