    Tow Hitch

Hi. Anyone got a part no. for the piece of angle iron that seems to bolt under rear crossmember to support the tow hitch/tow hitch plate. Also, anyone got pics of a adjustable hitch set up on an 88"? Ta.

Series 3 Lower shock absorber fitting

Hi all. Busy fitting the new parabolics and shock absorbers to the galv chassis. Anyone got any tips as to fitting the lower end of the shock? I'm thinking I'm going to have to cut up a suitable sized piece of tubing to act as a combined press and aligner so that I can squeeze the bush/washer in...

    What's this called?...

Anyone tell me what this plate is called? - On bellhousing with gearshift flange bolted through it. Mine is missing it, and I know I could make one, but if I could buy one, it'd be quicker...probably.

    Fuel tank

Stripping down to fit new chassis on my '81 88" and noticed my fuel tank says made in Canada. Is this usual?

    Cornish Mechanic Recommendations

Hi all. Anyone had good experience with Land Rover mechanic down here in Cornwall? What needs doing is beyond my comfort level, so looking for someone who knows (Series) Landies.

    Series 3 Rear Tub?

Hi all. Anyone got a rear tub for a Series 88 that they would be selling? I am in Cornwall but can collect anywhere-ish(!).

    24 Spline?

Hi, my Series 3 88" is listed as July 1981; 1981 manufacture. Just about to go in for chassis swap and some work on front transmission (fwh) as it won't engage 4wd. Can I assume that it has 24 spline half shafts? If not, is there a visual check to do, short of withdrawing the shaft? Forgive the...

    LRSOC Falmouth

Anyone have any details about the National Rally 2020? It is at Falmouth, apparently this year, and it is fairly rare for stuff like this to be within easy reach; I'd love to go. 27-28th June is all I have.

    Driving off-road

As a newbie to the 4x4 experience, except tractors and dumpers, I was wondering if I could tap into the experience on this forum, around how best to drive my S3 swb over different surfaces. For example; Snow, mud, sand - is the sop to deflate tyres down to 15 or there abouts? I'm fitting...

    Detachable tow/recovery arrangements.

I've seen a recovery setup - admittedly American, and on a Jeep - where there is a detachable system, which means you can fit either a normal tow ball hitch for towing or swap for a Nato style if you want recovery mode. Anyone got any pics or experience of anything like this on a Series?

    Recovery Eye fitting

Got some good quality recovery eyes of the "D" type, with 4 bolt holes per eye. I realise that they are fitted through the bumper bolt holes in the chassis, but as there are only 2 each side on my Series 3, am I missing something or is it simply a matter of drilling 2 extra holes to suit...

    Series 3 Chassis replacement

Well, I am a little confused. Searching for a galv chassis for the S3 has thrown up far fewer than I had thought. Marsden seemingly don't but will in the future, Shielder have gone 90/110, so I'm left with Richards and the thick end of 2228, delivered to Cornwall(£324 !!), bog standard without...

    Lockers, Diffs and Drives.

Being a newbie to the LR world, I was wondering whether you could put me straight about the 4wd system. My S111 88" ('81) has freewheeling hubs. If I lock them and put the vehicle into 4wd by depressing the yellow knob, by my reckoning, I am in 4wd, high ratio. Are the diffs locked in any way...

Series gearbox i.d. - yes another one!

Hi all. My Series 3 has a few gearbox issues and, given I have a spare, lying quietly in the barn, I was wondering if we might use it. It has a plate screwed to the bellhousing that identifies it as a "Factory Rebuilt Unit" and has Part no. 600917 1, and serial number; K11571. Any ideas?

    Any performance to be gained?

Hi. Just planning out fettling my '81 88" petrol. Got the Weber. Is there anything else I can plan to do to "improve" the 2.25 petrol? Obvs not looking for anything startling, just want to get the best from the "standard" engine without losing torque and what reliability there may be remaining...

    Land Rover Mechanic in Cornwall

Hi. Anyone have knowledge of/recommendation of a decent Land Rover Series mechanic down here in Cornwall. I am in Truro, but will travel anywhere in Cornwall for an experienced and reliable bloke. I'm sure I don't have to say; no delerships =;-))

    Series 3 Weber Carb Conversion

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but I don't seem to be able to search forums yet. Weber carb conversion - which one have people found best, and should I be looking for an adapter plate? Thanks. Chris

    Hi.

Newbie introducing myself. Cornish boy, first time owner after getting old enough to require my accessing my bucket list. Found a Series111 88", locally, needing a bit of fettling. Am reasonably familiar with maintaining and fixing cars and vans, but up until now, have concentrated on classic...
