    300 Series Defender Starting problem

Bob, I had a similar problem with a 200TDi. It turned out to be the starter motor solenoid return spring (normally in the "sealed" solenoid on top of the starter motor). On carefully prising the solenoid open I found the spring in 3 pieces - replaced it with a new one and it worked fine for the...

    #savethechassis

As a Materials Engineer, with a PhD in Corrosion, and a great deal of interest in Landies, when I had to choose what to do to protect the chassis of my new 6x6 it was a no-brainer. Painting the outside with fancy epoxy-based coating systems is all well and good, but after 25 years all that's...

    Sills, steps & sliders...

Thanks for that, but it is exactly what I want to avoid! You have removed the original sills to fit the rock sliders, and the steps probably stop them from working properly anyway. Can you actually use the two jacking points in the sliders with the steps on? At the end of the day, what people do...

    Sills, steps & sliders...

Hi all. Wonder if anyone can help with some beneficial suggestions... I have conventional 90 sills on my Defender, albeit covered with black chequer-plate, which I'd like to keep on. However, I also want to fit some form of sliders and my wife wants me to put steps on it (so she can get in - not...

    Fuel Filler Cap - TD5

Final update - replaced the old cap with a new TD5 cap - problem solved. New opening procedure: turn key anticlockwise 180 degrees, then rotate cap anticlockwise to open tank. Closing is reverse, rotated cap clockwise until it clicks, then turn key 180 degrees clockwise and remove. All seems...

    Fuel Filler Cap - TD5

Turning the key clockwise just makes the top of the cap loose. Turning the key anticlockwise gives a hint that something may be trying to engage, but fails. Guess the next question becomes: How do you get a failed cap of the filler neck?

    Fuel Filler Cap - TD5

The two tanks are off a TD5 and a 300TDi, with different caps and different keys. The other key fits the TDi cap, so...I'm guessing...

    Fuel Filler Cap - TD5

Tried that - my daughter couldn't open it either!

    Fuel Filler Cap - TD5

Help! I'm probably being thick here, but answers are only obvious when you know them... I just tried to fill my TD5 fuel tank, but couldn't remove the filler cap. I put he key in, rotated it 180 degrees anti-clockwise, then pressed down on the cap and turned it anti-clockwise, but nothing...
