    Battery Warning Light

Hi all, Hope everyone is well?! Just had a strange issue with the battery warning light. Driving home from the office (50 miles in a diesel series 3!!) I noticed the battery warning light came on dimly while I was braking. I tried the lights the warning light flashed then went off. Then all...

    Series 3 Oily spots!

I did 100 miles in my series 3 diesel the other day. I've just noticed that the rear x-member and rear of the body are covered in tiny spots of oil or diesel. Any ideas what it is? I'm guessing unburnt fuel from the exhaust? Does the pump timing need to be advanced? I've set the timing based...

    Series 3 Window Locks

I've just fitted new door tops, the old ones were rusty! I thought series 3 always had the lower lock in the square hole in the door top. Mine has the series 2 twist type at the top of the window and a square blank to cover the hole beneath the window. It seems strange that they would have...

    Valve clearance issue

This is a weird one! Setting the valve clearances on my S3 diesel, all ok except one - valve no.2. To set the clearance the nut is right on the edge of the thread, almost as if the pushrod isn't long enough! Any ideas?

    Rear crankshaft seal

I'm looking to replace the rear crankshaft seal on a 5 bearing engine. I've just ordered a decent seal from Turner engineering. Is it best to remove the back plate (flywheel housing) and fit the seal whilst it's on the bench, or to do it in situ? I did this about 10 years ago to a 200tdi, I...

2.25 or 2.5 diesel or petrol wanted

To fit into a series 3. Not too far from Somerset or Bristol, ideally. I have an engine crane and a van so can collect.

    Engine lifting hooks

I removed the engine yesterday evening, I was hoping to use the chains and a load leveller. But the hooks on the engine are tiny (2.25 diesel), so I just put a rope around the whole thing and did it that way. Ideally though I'd like to use the leveller when putting it back in as I can get the...

    Radiator bracket repair

On to the next problem!!! The steel bracket around the radiator has come detatched from the copper header and base on one side of the radiator. What's the best way to fix it, apart from that the radiator looks good so I'd like to fix it rather than buy another? I thought about trying to...

    Glue for dash top

Hi All, I'm going to some vinyl over my dash top (series 3), to hide all of the holes and broken bits. But I'm unsure of which glue to use. I've previously used a spray carpet contact adhesive (on an old Mini) which worked well until it got hot in the summer and then the glue melted and it...

Series 3 diesel timing chain kit

Hi All, I'm looking to do the timing chain, tensioner, sprockets etc on my series 3 diesel. I can see that it's quite easy to get a kit for petrol models up to 1974, but not diesels. I thought that all the timing equipment was the same on 2.25 petrol and diesel engines? I've got an S2/S2A...

    Tyres!

I'm thinking about getting a set of new tyres for the Landy (1972 SWB series 3 diesel). Currently it's got 205 80 R16, but I was thinking about something bigger, maybe 7.5 R16, just to get a little more top speed really! Of course I could get 235 I guess, but I don't really want to get too wide...

    Series 3 Flick wipe

I've been removing the unwanted (and slightly dodgy) wiring from my series 3. This has left me with a hole in the dash (where there was an added switch, I imagine there is usually a blank). I had an idea that rather than get a blank for it I'd put a momentary switch in to be a flick wipe for...

    Hello!

Morning, I've recently replaced a 2003 TD5 Disco with a 1972 Series 3 88 soft top, diesel! No stranger to series Land Rovers, previously owned a 1973 petrol and a 1950 80" when I was 16 - sold it for £350!! Also have owned 2 90s. This one seems to be reasonably up together, apart from some...
