Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

If I knew how to pit pictures in the post or had a 12 year old near by to teach me how, I would show you what I had in mind - they are not normally used in the automotive trade and you have to be on a register to own a removal tool :) Nothing I will do will make it theft proof, short of...

Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

I am already looking at security measures to make it unattractive to attempt to steal it. Thanks for the heads up on the method they use to steal them. I think on that basis, instead of using standard studs, I will go with 12.9 grade bolts and tamper proof nuts. They have more chance of dating...

    I need some advice please.

Hi, This will probably get stick from the fender and disco lot :D Depends on what off-road capabilities you require, but I would suggest the Freelander 2. Great on the road, not too bad offroad (don't know about you, but I am not driving in the jungles of Peru every day, or on an expedition...

Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

The hinges would have to be upgraded, along with gas struts, reshaping and reinforcing of the bonnet itself, plus the visibility would be awful. I am finding out the hard way that the 2013 FL2, is the least aftermarket friendly LR of them all.....not a whole lot of options out there :mad...

Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

Absolutely true. But for me, swinging open the wheel carrier is not going to be a problem, especially given the gain of storage space. I had a measure up and could get the spare wheel centralised and out of the way of the rear lights etc. if the design is correct. Of course, the other way to go...

Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

Because I need to make use of the internal space that the spare wheel takes up - we all have different requirements from our vehicles. I have found a company that makes bespoke bumpers, so I will contact them tomorrow and see if they can manufacture one with a swing out carrier.

Spare wheel carrier for Freelander 2 ?

I found these guys just now. http://www.tp4x4.com/product-category/bespoke-4x4/ I am going to give them a shout and see if they can offer anything? I was actually thinking a replacement rear bumper with a hinged wheel carrier.

Thanks Hippo, I will give that a try. Btw, just found your YouTube video channel after following your links. Very nice stuff, especially the ability of the FL1 offroad. No, it is probably not going to drive in the most inhospitable environment known to man, but can handle pretty much most...

Hi Hippo, thanks for the welcome and info. Would you happen to know the name of the manufacturer who built the spare wheel carrier? I know it will not look great, but I need the internal storage space I will gain.

Hahaha. Thanks Shimsteriom. I will get hold of Hippo. As Thor is American, I understand that he is handicapped, so I will have to start using smaller words for him ;)
