I finally got a scan tool on it today it came up as P0894 transmission component slipping! does that sound like a broken direct clutch?

Thanks for the link but that company doesn't actually stock any hardware parts, i've only been able to find used parts so far.

Also any idea where I could get my hands on one of these? would a good used part be sufficient or would it have to be new do you think?

I have actually considered doing that but when I looked into it I found that you need a specialist tooling and such, and I've not been able to find any kind of rebuild manual For it, do you know of any kind of rebuild guide manual? I rebuilt a torqueflite 727 Before and that was pretty easy but...

i prefer auto but im sick of these absolute **** boxes! the manual will be reliable and interesting if nothing else and ill be happy with that.

Phil I've done loads of manual conversions it shouldn't be any more difficult than anything i've done before in my opinion! I will make adapter plate to join the GS6X53 box to the nv225 no big deal, and don't believe the engine needs to talk to the auto to idle and go through the the rpm range...

yep i guess that's it so, gearbox F***ed again! I'm going to do a manual conversion using a 6 speed from an x5. at least it will be reliable! this RR had 2 boxes already 3rd will be a manual. thanks for the info Phil

Hi Bemble, yes it will not engage 4th or 5th under any conditions, i think it temporarily went into 4th for like 3 seconds and then to failsafe on couple of occasions but not entirely sure. What is the significance of not engaging 4 th or 5th?
