    Loud thud when changing gear

Hello folks I finally restored 4WD on my freelander and since then there's an occasional loud thud coming from underneath the front/mid end. It happens when accelerating out of 1st gear mostly, sometimes 2nd and 3rd if I'm driving fast. Sounds like someone hitting the underside with a large log...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Along with many many repairs and restoring 4WD with a Bell Engineering recon vcu I put some nice modular steelies and Grabber AT tyres on. Great off road now! Could do with a bit more ground clearance but still great.

Drum to Disc brake conversion Freelander 1

I'm thinking to conver to rear discs, was a different hub needed here? Just wondering how the calipers were bolted on.

    Changing Sport Suspension

Ok great so mine is just a standard freelander! That makes things easier :)

    Changing Sport Suspension

It has an S on the front side just behind the wheel arch, I presumed that means sport. The front struts are currently being held up by the springs, also the mount bearings have completely failed! I hope the handling with new standard longer shocks would be much better than its current state. I...

    Changing Sport Suspension

I'd quite like a 30mm lift if the standard shocks will fit!

    Changing Sport Suspension

I'm looking to change all 4 struts and coils from my 2002 TD4 Sport to a standard TD4 setup. I read on here that sport suspension is 20mm lower. Does anyone know if I can just literally remove all the old knackered sport shocks and re-fit with new standard TD4s? In theory giving a 20mm lift...

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

Changed the vac hose going into the turbo solenoid, but no change at all. Still struggling from 30-40mph and uphill, feels like a boost control problem similar to what I had in another turbo diesel car. I did clean the MAP sensor but maybe it just needs a new one.

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

Cheers! I'll replace them and see if there's any results.

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

No haven't yet! I should probably have a good look at those next.

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

I've now replaced the vac pipes coming from the egr solenoid, cleaned out the inlet manifold and map sensor. Still got this bloody lack of power!! There are no warning lights on, no smoke, engine idles smoothly. Need to get diagnostics test carried out, I'm now suspecting a faulty remote fuel...

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

Looks like this split vac hose could be causing the lack of power then. The vacuum circuit will be compromised for sure, although the brakes seem fine. Hopefully power will return after fitting some new vac hoses, and a clean manifold.

    EGR Solenoid, lack of power.

Hello I need some advice! Does the EGR solenoid have a function once the EGR valve has been removed? I've got the famous lack of power, at 70mph on hills and accelerating from 30-40mph. Tried lots of things but the problem is still there. Intercooler hoses have been changed, crank case...

    Restoring 4WD on a Freelander 1

Yeh sure I see where you're coming from, the only thing that makes me hesitant to splash out on the IRD is the amount of rust underneath the vehicle and I need to buy the prop shaft and vcu too. Basicly all of the suspension components look very old front and rear, there's a lot of play/knocking...

    Restoring 4WD on a Freelander 1

I had a look on Bell Engineerings website, £600 for an IRD. Way out of my budget for this old bus. Bell look the business I'll keep them in mind for the future.

    Restoring 4WD on a Freelander 1

Thanks for the info! Yeh for sure most of the second hand ird units I wouldn't bother with. The one I've seen has done 43k and looks to be in much better shape than the one I have on just now.

Has anyone here replaced an IRD before? :)

    Restoring 4WD on a Freelander 1

Looks like it needs a replacement IRD then! The cost of a rebuilt unit doesn't seem worth it for the age of this Freelander, x reg nearly 20 years old. There's loads of old parts that'll need replacing on it at some point. It could be a good restoration project or just a massive money pit. I...
