    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Morning all, Quick update and a big thanks forl your help and advice. After pulling things to bits, it turns out it was the rear UJ on the rear propshaft, even though the noises were coming from the front? I've replaced all 4 UJ's and put the props back on and there's no funny rattling noises...

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Thanks Gents @jamesmartin - you're a hero. :D Can I assume that the Front Diff and Prop are OK and put the prop back on? Can I access the linkages through the hatch between the seats, or do I have to do it from underneath? At the moment, I'm working on the drive with the Defender sat on his...

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

There is no castlellated nut, but a shiny galved flange nut, which is tight as f**k. No waggle at all on the Diff Flange, but the backlash / rotation is probably 10-15 degrees - I took some photos, but they don't want to be uploaded onto LZ for some reason. The flange on the Transfer box rotates...

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Cheers Seadog, I appreciate your advice, but excuse my ignorance - what's the Diff Pinion?

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Oh dear. I took the front prop off and have given it a thorough going over. The UJ's rotate nice and smooth along their axis as they should, and there isn't any play at all. There is no rotation of the prop at the splines and it slides in and out nice and smooth, so I think the prop and UJ's are...

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Thanks mate. I'll get the prop off when it eventually stops raining. Hope it is the Prop, as that would be a nice easy fix for my amateur abilities ;)

    Defender propshaft / rattling noises

Morning all, As per the title, I've just noticed an intermittant rattling noise. It sounds like something metal and solid and seems to be coming from just under and forward of the clutch pedal. It is when I'm pulling off slowly and when I'm slowing down coming up to a junction, but seems to...

    Thoughts and advice on Spanners

Oh dear... Googles and Fleabay just made these fall through my door It was an accident - I didn't mean to buy them, but they were cheap and I came over all funny like. :D Snap on sockets £40 Britool 6 point spanners £25

L322 4 wheel alignment - track rod seized to chassis

That's Londonshire for you... That £2k+ quote is their way of saying that they can't be bothered doing the work - they probably make more than enough doing easy routine servicing etc. and nowadays, they probably prefer fixing things with a computer, rather than getting their nice manicured hands...

Freelander 1 Knowing my right from left.

Just checking again. Are they marked left and right side of vehicle or left hand thread and right hand thread? Sometimes the simple things are not always that simple o_O

Freelander 1 Knowing my right from left.

Sitting in the drivers seat, looking forward through the windscreen.... Left = Nearside = Port Right = Offside = Starboard Unless you have a mirrored windscreen - then it gets really confusing :D

    110 chassis options

So....he's qualified and experienced enough to MOT and pass/fail your Tratter, but he doesn't even know where to look for the chassis number? You definitely need to find a different testing station ;)

    P38A wheels and tyres

BFG all terrains....they'll die of old age before they wear out ;) If it's for mainly road driving and comfort and looking nice, go for 18" rims. 16" is better for off road and curbing and normally cheaper for the tyres, but if you got BFG's then you'd only be buying one set of...

    Drivers Lock turning without Key

Tratterers should only be in possession of big, heavy, manly hammers... "a light hammer" would need to be borrowed from a Gaylanderer owner :D

Disco 2 Oil pump bolt disaster - it happened to me!

That's bang out of order... Some poor Defender owner could buy a replacement Disco engine....and BANG! What were they thinking? ;)

Disco 2 Oil pump bolt disaster - it happened to me!

Ouch, Is this a TD5 thing, or does it effect 300Tdi's too?

    Drivers Lock turning without Key

:D I opened mine a couple of weeks back with a teaspoon, because I couldn't be bothered to go back in the house for the key. I thought it was normal on a defender drivers side.....wear and tear ;) New barrels are cheap as chips, just the hassle of changing all 3 doors and then having a separate...

    Freelander 1 Middle exhaust

That's exactly what I thought. When I put the straight through pipe on my Defender, I was going to weld an empty CAT case over the outside of it, because of all the fuss I'd heard of with the new MOT regs, but I didn't get round to it and it passed anyway, with not a word mentioned. :D Cheers

    I'm a newbie

Hi Martin, Welcome to the mad house. You can tell us about you Landrover, if you have one...Pictures are even better or just your interest in Landrovers and why you've joined. There is even a special needs section on here if you own a Gaylanderer ;)
