Freelander 1 How to change 1.8 Inlet Manifold gasket

Thought I would do this write up for those who are not so keen to take on what seem to be 'big' jobs. A leaky inlet manifold gasket is a common problem and on a 1.8 could prove catastrophic if not dealt with. So after taking some advice from others on here I changed mine. It was easy, quick...

Freelander 1 Sump removal quick question

Going to fix the leaky sump in our 1.8 tomorrow. Can the sump be dropped without removing exhaust downpipe? What size socket do I need? Is it a Torx type socket? Cheers .

John Craddock - poor service in 21st century

Need to get this off my chest... Ordered couple of gaskets from John Craddock's on Monday and just been told that they are only being sent out today! 4 days to process an order is **** poor these days. No apology, nothing. I appreciate the postal system can cause delays, but that's why I...

    Inlet manifold gasket change 1.8

Morning all. I'm planning on changing the inlet gasket on my 1.8 at the weekend. (Signs of leaks and the coolant level slowly drops over a few days) I've had a quick look and it seems easy enough and the access is good. I was planning on leaving everything attached. Injectors etc etc. Is this a...

    Am I a bit strange?

On advice from others on here I've ordered a new expansion bottle. It will be here in a couple of days. I am truly looking forward to fitting it at the weekend! I mean REALLY looking forward to tinkering with the beast! Everything I've done so far has been very easy. Even resealing the exahaust...

Freelander 1 Coolant bottle - advice or opinions please

Doing some tinkering tonight I found the coolant had "crazing" around the neck. (See pic). Whats your thoughts? Normal? Need replaced? Set fire to it and then claim a big boy did it and ran away?

    Greenlaning..in 2 wheel drive?

I'm planning to build a 'toy' car this year. But it won't be a Landy. (Sorry!) It's probably going to be based on a new VW beetle. Jacked up, beefier suspension, lightened, etc.etc. Anyway... has anyone here done any greenlanes in FWD or 2 wheel drives? Is it really just a case of finding...

Rear nudge bar/ bull bar ?

I'm thinking of making my own nudge bar for the back of our facelift model. The rear lights on both corners (the ones in the bumper) are now cracked. Did they actually sit down at LR and ask themselves, "Right lads, given this is an off roader aimed at day to day city use also. Where is the...

Wanted Lower rear light lense Freelander 2004 Facelift

Hi. Looking for the lower rear light lense on Freelander facelift 2004. The indicator / tail one. You know.. the one your stupid daughter smashes when she reverses in to a bollard! Grrrr

    And another problem...

Freelander decided to cry transmission oil yesterday. Big puddle under middle below IRD. Dont know where its coming from as I havent had time to get under tray off yet. Will investigate this evening... sigh...:(

OK. I'm converted..I admit it, I was wrong!

My wife was having increasing difficulty getting out of her Beetle , and any low car, due to her arthritic knees. So we decided to find something with more 'height' to it. I spent 17 years in motor trade (parts) back in the 80' and 90's. Back when Freelanders were new. And lets be honest, the...

    Stinky pete the Freelander...

OK. Strange one this but I'm scratching my head... Wifes 1.8 has been great since we got it. No problems other than couple of minor things to take care of. (Idle air valve, CD player, nothing else engine related) Just fixed the leaky flexible exhaust joint it had on it on Saturday with no...

    Seat height adjustment

Might be a silly question, but does anyone know of a way to lower the passenger seat? (And before you ask, no it hasn't got height adjustable seats!) Problem is the son in law is 6 foot 6 and has to slouch down to avoid smacking his head off the roof. Is there a adjustment that can be made?

    Electric window fault

Opened up my right/rear door to investigate the non working window. I'm thinking, snapped cable, faulty motor, seized mech. Nope ....none of that....because none of that was there! It's all gone! So, anyone got a door cable and motor set for 2004 , rear right door? :)

    Central locking

Hello, quick question... Driver's door will not open on the fob. All the other doors unlock OK (on second press) But it WILL LOCK on the fob! Opens on the key no bother. Is this probably just a solenoid problem or something more sinister (i.e complicated!) Cheers

    Freelander 1 1.8 fuel filter???

Hi everyone. Quick question .. I'm going to change the fuel filter on our 1.8 2004 (54 plate - only just bought it) as I think it may have been neglected. Although its had a recent service. The engine revs are 'hunting' by maybe a 100 rpm at idle when hot. Runs great and starts great, just a...

    Landy virgin

Hello everyone. Just a quick hello before I start picking everyone's brains! We just bought a freelander (for various reasons) and loving it already. Its a 1.8 (yes I know...) but its been well looked afet. Head gasket been done, timing belt , water pump, all serviced and the viscous unit is...
