P38A Getting in to a locked, dead car

Okay thanks for your suggestions. I'll give it a go when the weather gets better.

P38A Getting in to a locked, dead car

Not sure if that will be possible, the suspension has dropped so getting under it will be difficult

P38A Getting in to a locked, dead car

How can I get the bonnet open without getting the door open? Is there a way?

P38A Getting in to a locked, dead car

Hi The battery on my P38 is flat, so the key fob doesn't unlock it. Also, the lock tumbler on the door also doesn't do anything because the small metal rod that connects it to the central locking system has fallen off. So basically, how the hell can I get back into the car? Thanks

    P38A Large battery drain

Thanks for your reply, I've had a read through of that site before, and it seems to only detail the issues with the RF receiver, which is disconnected in my car

    P38A Large battery drain

I know this has been talked about before, but I think my problem is more extreme. My 99 4.6 has drained 2 large batteries in the space of 4 hours each. The RF receiver is disconnected, and the ignition key flap closes. What could be causing such a large drain? The batteries were both 95Ah 800CCA...

    P38A Changing pistons & crank

Thanks for all your help. Crank, pistons and conrods from the 4.6 all going to the 4.0. Also it's thor to gems so I know the CPS and timing cover need changing. How many hours of labour roughly do you think it would take?

    P38A Changing pistons & crank

Yes this is what I mean. Both blocks are out of the car, I just want to know if it's a big job to get the pistons and crank from the old 4.6 into the new 4.0

    P38A Changing pistons & crank

Yes this is why I need everything swapped, I'm wondering how much work it is

    P38A Changing pistons & crank

I have a 4.6 thor which needs a new block (crack behind liner). I just picked up a cheap 4.0 block to replace it. I understand that the crankshaft, rods, and pistons have to be put in the 4.0 block from the 4.6. Is this a big job? Garage thought it was just a straight swap of the blocks, but...

    P38A Question about slipped liners

Wait, are you saying I have a chance to fix this if I have top hat liners?

Apologies for my ignorance. I have now watched the video and understand my scenario.

    P38A Question about slipped liners

Thanks for all your advice. After spending over £1000 on the head gasket job, I don't know whether or not I should risk a new(used) engine and hope it's good, or just sell it as is and make some money back. But I still don't understand why the engine behaved for the first few days after the head...

    P38A Question about slipped liners

Could you elaborate on what 'tick' means? Sorry I'm not mechanically inclined Only found out number 3 was slipped after the second strip down. But if the liners had slipped then why did the engine run fine for the first few days? Thanks for your answers

    P38A Question about slipped liners

1999 4.6 I've had an overheating problem for a while, and after getting the head gaskets changed, it briefly went away and the engine ran nice and cool through all journeys. A few days later it was back to overheating again. Now the garage has told me that it is clear around cyl 3 that the...

    P38A Fresh gaskets, still overheating

Heads were pressure tested hot & cold and were fine. I'm not getting it back until Monday so I'll have a look then to see how the stat is bypassed

Rover is with garage now, I'll wait and see if he finds anything.

    P38A Fresh gaskets, still overheating

Filled up the coolant today into the radiator top hose, took another 2 litres before it was full so I'm suspecting a leak somewhere. Blew through the bleed hose and it was clear. Anyway, drove it around for about 5 minutes before it overheated again. Went to fill it up again, and it took another...

    P38A Fresh gaskets, still overheating

Thanks, will give it a try in the morning. Could an airlock cause rough idling?

Heads were skimmed and pressure tested hot & cold prior to new gaskets Mechanic said liners were perfect and hadn't moved at all
