Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Even although there are two outputs which are connected somewhere in the circuit there could be a bad connection or high resistance between the interconnected points and the cyl 3 output. My advice to people is always use original quality plugs, leads and coils as anything less is usually at...

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Hey, the injector duration is likely just the ground side pulse so would likely read the same whether it was working or not. I’d do the light test as it’s quick, easy and free. Yeah if this issues appeared since a coil pack change then I’d swap it back and see what happens. Or swap cylinders to...

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Hey, glad your nearly there. As for the misfire count I believe that most of them analyse the crank sensor waveform as it can detect even slight or momentary reductions in rpm. I would say that given it’s a wasted spark ignition system, and assuming it’s an ignition misfire then by default it...

Freelander 1 Dark deposits and Copper flakes in coolant

Not sure if anyone has said it yet so forgive me if they have. This can suddenly appear if there is an airlock in the engine and somehwere is getting a little too hot. It could also just be the increased coolant circulation making it appear since you just gave it a good run after the power issue...

Glad you got it sorted matey. With how the tps potentiometer works the ecu may have interpreted the 0v as minimum throttle or less. That would give the fuel cut as it may think foots off the gas to slow down. That one was a good brain teaser 👍.

    Clutch

Excellent stuff matey. Sometimes systems can get badly air locked. Using a power bleeder or the “pressure blow out” method sometimes solves it.

No problem matey. It’s good brain exercise for me anyway. Was off work the last 9 months and just back a week ago so I’m a bit rusty anyway and need sharpening up.

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Hi there, I’ve had a bit of time to think about it and yea I agree it could be an electrical circuit or it could be actual lambda readings. It’s good you’ve got started on basic checks already as you’ll find the answer sooner. So here is what I make of it. The problem is gonna be down one of...

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Hi there, ok so seems your almost there with it. Often many things can be worn out and collectively making it run less well than desired. If I’m interpreting the pic data correctly then it looks like the o2 sensors dropped to 0v for around 3 seconds. There could be a number of electrical...

    Clutch

Hi, ideal you’ve got the lot. I wouldn’t worry about the clutch plate bolts, they are usually rated a 10.9 or 12.9 so strong as hell. They don’t come with the clutch kit and i don’t think I’ve ever replaced them. The flywheel on the other hand will usually have new, already thread-locked bolts...

    high pressure fuel regulator

No worries. It’s easy for these things to happen, especially if it isn’t something your used to doing. Don’t worry too much about flattening cables a bit but do check no insulation is/was broken, as you don’t want any copper wire exposed anywhere.

    Td4 starting

It’s usually injection related in my experience. You might wanna do some basic checks like an injector leak off test. If you have two brand new injectors then compare the return from them to the two older ones. If there’s a significant difference you will likely need more injectors.

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

We often have to drive cars a few miles at work to get warning lights and fault codes to bugger off after repairing stuff even if we’ve tried deleting the fault codes. I think the cars just need to be convinced themselves via self testing that it’s actually fixed before they’ll remove certain...

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Given when you put the new o2 sensor in that as you described problem 1 was gone and the fuel trims looked fine to me I would suspect reason number 2 above. The only thing I noticed slightly different between your new o2 sensor reading vs your old known good was the switching rate. There was a...

Freelander 1 K series misfire / cut out - SOLVED

Hi there, glad your making progress. Your o2 sensors and fuel trims look nice, well within expected range. Yea fuel trims long/short are calculated against each other. As if the long term is adding 5% and the short term removing 5% then 5 add -5 is 0. What has happened could be explained by two...

    Freelander 1 ABS weird issue

I wonder if maybe it’s a mechanical fault or if that mechanical fault is being driven by electrical input. Try this, remove brake pedal light switch but leave it plugged into the car. Put tape on the switch to keep the plunger in (foot off brake pedal position/brake lights off) and see if it...
