    I need some help

Most engineering shops should be able to cut a male spline, internal splines require more specialist equipment. I would also be very surprised if their is a female aluminium spline feature in a Land Rover steering system.

    I need some help

If you want an engineering company to make this you will at the very least need a fully dimensioned drawing ideally with some tolerancing and materials spec otherwise its a design and build which could be a lot more expensive.

Series 2a - Vertical play in front wheels

Preload when using taper rollers is about a 1/3rd of the value when using Railko top bearing. Still not found any info on this conversion kit for Series 3 Land Rovers, it may be that the kit has some more specific advice on preload, I used the value for the Defender with top taper rollers.

Series 2a - Vertical play in front wheels

Wish I knew this a while ago, I spent ages looking for a conversion kit for a Series 3 so I could have taper roller bearings top and bottom, to late now I did mine over Christmas. Would be really useful if you could post a link to the kit for future reference.

    Dodgy Brakes

Even if your Series brakes are in perfect working order they are still going to be poor if you are comparing them to a modern hatchback, I'm guessing your emergency stopping distance is going to be around twice that of a brake assist, ABS and stability controlled modern car. Its all about...

    Oil and filter recommendations please…

Interesting. I hadn't appreciated that a highly refined mineral oil could be sold as a synthetic. I guess when Land Rover selected Mobil 1 as an approved oil for its engines it was still a genuine synthetic oil. I suspect there weren't many alternative synthetic or semi synthetic oils around at...

    Oil and filter recommendations please…

I'm afraid you are wrong, Mobil 1 was available in 1974 as a fully synthetic oil and recommended by Land Rover for the Series 3. That would suggest that none of the negatives you mention hold true for the 2.25 Diesel. The point is you can run virtually any oil in this engine, mineral, semi...

    Oil and filter recommendations please…

You don't need a mineral oil and you don't need a 20W/50. Land Rover recommend a huge range of oils for the Series 3 diesel, at the bottom of the pile is your bog standard 20W/50 mineral, I wouldn't pay any more for something in a steel can with the classic written on it, all the way up to a...

    Series 2 Roamerdrive

The oil in the overdrive isn't "sealed" in, you only add the initial amount to ensure its not dry at start-up, you can in fact fill the transfer box through the overdrive as the front isn't sealed and is open to the rest of the transfer box, the level is set by the casing acting as a weir. When...

Series 3 Fitting Castor Correction Plates with Parabolics

A properly manufactured set of parabolic spring wont alter the castor angle. I know some parabolic springs give some "lift" but as long as its the same at the front and rear then the castor remains the same.

    GL4 Gear Oil

https://www.lr-winches.com/uploaded_files/productvariantmediaitem/ssinstal_all.pdf Everything you need to know is in the instruction above, note the requirement for a synthetic oil for TDi installations. Some of the torque setting in the instruction are incorrect, cant remember which ones but...

Steering column shaft - use or Britpart?

Britpart aren't the only option, ICS manufacture new worms and nuts, http://www.ics-steeringspecialist.co.uk/bespoke-engineering/series-one-ii-iia-and-3-land-rover

    Measuring over gearing %

Ashcroft do a whole range of different CWP ratios, including a 4.12 and 4.37, take your pick. They may even to a reverse cut one for the front.

    Brakes to good!

I had this issue with my SWB on 10" drums. As has been mentioned the fronts have larger slaves to increase breaking force but I found the rears locked prematurely. As Woody has said adjusting them wont make a difference. In the end I needed to go to 11" on the front with the 1 1/4" slaves to...

    300tdi FIP in a 2a

Interesting, do you think the improvements are the result of the 300TDi pump being a better unit for the 200TDi or are the improvements more a reflection on the condition of your old 200TDi pump.

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

Great bit of info on the optional setup for the SWB, where did you find that, its not in my parts book but then again neither is the heater, looks like you have exactly the right setup.

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

Its a very long time since I did any digging on the subject but I think I came to the conclusion that Land Rover never fitted a servo to any domestic single leading shoe SWB models. There is some anecdotal evidence that some export models were fitted with servo assisted SLS brakes but they...

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

I think that's probably a LWB MC, it will work but its unnecessarily large as normally it would have to deal with TLS front brakes. There isn't much documentation about servo assisted SLS SWB brakes. When I was digging around I managed to find out that the lightweight was fitted with a servo and...

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

I'm assuming you have a standard 10" SWB setup. If you already have the correct SWB single line master for fitting to the servo you are good to go. If you want to upgrade to a dual line system then make sure you get the smaller SWB master, the LWB one is to large and will give you a heavy pedal.
