Despite fixing the dreaded Golf one more time (and so putting off buying a replacement), this may now be happening and I've found what appears to be a good 'in locally. Just out of interest what sort of MPG should I expect - say on a dual carriageway at a constant(ish) 70mph?

No real need. 1) the breather hose runs into the intake system before the intercooler, so any excess oil ends up at the lowest point 2) they're known for it 3) I don't care if the hateful thing dies.

I'll have the intercooler pipe off for a look then, thank you. As an aside, my wife's doggy old VW Gold TDi was leaking oil out of it's intercooler bottom hose recently, so I may get my 'rebuilding a turbo' wish granted anyway. The 'dub is a lot more difficult to work on though - everything...

As I said, my memory is hazy on the issue - I ave a D2. What's the recommended interval for a change get of fluid then? And what's the going rate?

I'm no expert, but what I've heard is that the auto box is generally reliable if it receives an oil change (every 100k or so IIRC). And the manual is expensive if you need the clutch / DMF doing. Personally I think that engine suits the auto box well.

I have a nasty suspicion that I'll be separating the transmission this year as I have a very grumbly release bearing. Whilst I'm in there I guess I may as well replace the DMF and clutch. Given my recent grumblings about the use of the term OEM* and given that there are a thousand and one...

No dramas with that at all. But to say 'don't use OEM only use a LR boxed item' is clearly a bit silly, because anything in a LandRover box which wasn't made by LandRover is OEM by definition... I'm just being nit picky really, but it would have been more correct to say 'only buy a LandRover...

Not trying to get into an argument, but do you know what 'OEM' means? An awful lot of stuff that comes in a LandRover box is OEM - or do you think that LandRover make every single component themselves?

I put dunlops in mine in the summer. They're doing fine so far.

I kept the ones I'd removed. And then in the autumn (just before I found out about the new MoT rules) I had a garage tidy up and threw it out.:(

Well, whilst I agree generally, I've owned my D2 for 3 years and 40k miles. I've not yet succumbed to the need to plug it in. I expect that I have just given it the kiss of death and I'll need a diagnostic when I try to start it later!

Re the EKA, I wandered into my local dealership with the V5 and they gave me the EKA code. Dunno if they're supposed to or if that's normal, but might be worth trying.
