    Series 3 rewire

So, during lockdown I started ordering parts left right and centre for my series 3, 2.25 petrol. Somehow I decided I had a choke warning light switch on the choke cable and ordered the a main wiring loom and corresponding engine loom from auto sparks. Which arrived after the std 4 months (now...

    SP 4x4.

I purchased the anti burst conversion kit from sp. these are to go on my new bearmach doors. Obviously the barrel hole needs drilling, but i am finding the lock duesnt fit as the outer handle fouls on the outer skin. I don’t know which is wrong, the lock or the door!

    Tub repairs series 3

Here are a few pictures of my swb tub. I’ve removed the cross members and need to replace a couple of the top hat sections. You’ll also see some of the edge lips are pretty messed up. What’s the best way to sort these out? Also the big crease in the section below the striker plate? Thanks.

    Bulkhead reassembly after repair

So, I’m finally at an important stage in my ground up rebuild of my 79 S3. The bulkhead has been repaired (standard pillars and footwells). Couple of questions to now ask. Firstly, there are slight alignment issues in bolting the drivers side footwell you the upright chassis mount (the one that...

    Series 3 Help!!

I’ll check tonight regards spinning both wheels. Diffs are the originals. I’m thinking it’s something in the gearbox/transfer box. I’m guessing it’s still in gear/between gears.

    Series 3 Help!!

Okay, I’m stumped! Over the past couple of years I’ve been slowly working my way through a swb rebuild, yesterday I fitted the rear prop shaft and found that I can only roll the chassis a foot or so before it stops- in either direction, plus in this foot there’s a really lumpy bit, but I can...

Poly Bushes Ruined My Land Rover.

What was the final outcome of all this? I’ve something similar. I’m fitting gb paras (with std bushes) to a Richards chassis with a orange polybush (no idea of maker) book says to tighten shackle bolts to 70lb - by which time the orange polybush flange will be squeezed completely out (as stated...

    Spring hanging links

The front ones have the lugs and seem to be fine. The manual shows the tears as just two flat plates with inner one being threaded. As I say if I use bolt 537740 )again shown as correct for top and bottom hole, I run out of thread before the plates touch either side of the bush. I’ll keep looking!!

    Spring hanging links

So I went to my local landy spare shop to look at the part in question, 537740. But the Bolts they showed me are the same short thread. Are the bushes gb use a lot narrower? As I say, currently at least 4mm float for the spring between the shackles? Have others come across this?

    Spring hanging links

Quick question (I hope!) ive got to the point where I’m attaching my springs (gb paras) to the swing links. I got a new set of bolts and nuts for this and the question is should the lower bolt clamp the spring bush tightly between the links? The thread on mine stops with about 4mm gap. Apart...

    That perennial question again...!

Hi, sorry to drag this up again.. I’m at the point where I’m ready to start putting big bits together (only taken 4 years so far..). I’ve a new Richards chassis and I’ve decided to purchase a set of GB parabolics to go with it. The chassis has orange poly bushes already fitted but I’m not sure...

    Gearbox mainshaft nut

Thanks chaps, all worked a treat, only annoyance now is that I assembled the transfer box to the main box, all going so well, reading the manual and put the gasket in with grease when I’ve a tube of gasket sealer on the shelf! Oh well, it wouldn’t be a Land Rover if I had used it :-)

    Gearbox mainshaft nut

Hi guys, I’m at the point where I’m reconnecting the transfer box and main gearbox but still need to tighten the mainshaft nut (I’ve made the tool as others have from a large socket) I’m under the impression it needs to be 85 lb ft - How do I lock the shaft to do the nut up? It was finger tight...

    clutch question

Yep, saw that somewhere else so did the soaked it for 24 hours. So, I’ll fit the clutch tomorrow, that’ll be good, I’ve recently felt like it’s been one step forward then three sideways... ‍♂️

    clutch question

As always, thanks for the replies. So to parody, could I get away with a cv Lith-moly grease?

    clutch question

Just about to reassemble the clutch in my series. I’ve repalced the spigot bush but just reading the manual it says to appply molybdenum grease. I can understand why, but not having any - and neither do any local car assessors shops, I’m wondering if I can use an alternative? Thanks.

    S3 gearbox

I would say yes to your question, there’s a very small amount of take up then the shaft turns smoothly. It was a runner when I bought the car off my father in law and he said it pulled fine then (was a mine of information mechanically, sadly no longer with us). As I have a new chassis with the...

    S3 gearbox

With my series 3 in many bits, I decided to split the transfer case and main gearbox to attend to a leak. The main shaft in the the Bell housing has some lateral play. I’m guessing The bearing is shot? Is there likely to be other problems from this wear? Really don’t want to split the box down...

    Gear stick ball housing question

    Gear stick ball housing question

Hi people, Just a quick question on my gearbox. Whilst it’s semi dismantled I’m freeing up all the levers of years of crud and rust. I’ve taken the gear shift lever housing apart and noticed I don’t have the grub screw that goes through the housing to engage with the slot on the ball. I’ve not...
