    handbrake

I had the same issue with my 90, needed the handbrake to come apart and a bit of a refurb, brake drum was a git to get off as it had quite a lip on the edge so replaced the drum and shoes and the route cause was a spring that had come off so shoes were not pulling back in, I could have just...

Where to get an alternator from ?

These are the same across the models up until the late 300tdi onwards when the belt changed to the flat serpentine type and then the TD5 had the vacuum pump on the back. So the one you need is the early type as fitted to 200tdi, V8 and 2.5's

    Door Hinges

I have found the Allmakes4x4 ones to be pretty decent but have had no feedback on use after x number of years.

    commercial 110 utility body?

In the uk these can be taxed as a commercial or as private depending on what the buyer wants to do IIRC not sure about Ireland but I would imagine you could get it changed as there are some registered that way already!

    Wing mirror repair

The bottom of the mirror has a screw to tighten it as already mentioned, sometimes the bit that the screw goes through cracks and then you can't tighten it any further, a replacement mirror head is around a tenner so easily sorted.

    Help! wheels locking and banging

Sounds just like CV's, my 90 did the same when on full lock, I replaced the CV joints and all sorted, I had a friend who ignored it and landed up with a swivel housing full of shrapnel to contend with! The joints are not too expensive and not too tricky a job, a new driving member gasket and a...

    Turbo waste gate optimising

I did loads of miles on a 200tdi set to 1bar (14psi) without any issues in fact I found that to be about the best setting, any more than that and it seemed to get louder and smokeyer without going any better. I ran a boost gauge in place of the clock to keep an eye on it and set the pump up to...

    starter motor help?

It's one of those jobs that done with a bit of care can make the starter last a fair while longer but if it's plain worn out it wont help and you'll need to change it anyway, personally as the weather is likely to get a whole lot worse soon I'd stick a new one in so that I don't have to crawl...

clonking noise when pulling off through gears

I would check the driving members next, pop the rubber caps off the wheel centres and get someone to rotate your props and see if the shaft moves inside the driving member splines, if there's movement then replace the driving member, they're not that expensive and a new gasket to go behind it is...

    cost of cam belt

If in doubt, change it. Even if it "looks" ok they can still shed a few teeth and go munch, I had one fail on the wife's car a couple of years back and the remnants of the belt looked in good nick! If you don't know when it was done, then do it, then you will have some piece of mind but always...

    Defender Tyres

Bigger is better and go for some wheel spacers if you are worried about steering lock but go for decent ones with a centre spigot! I run some on my 110 with 285's and no clearance issues with a 2" lift!

    What do you think?

Just a brief update on this subject, I have been head down beavering away on the Defender Bits business and have invested heavily in new product lines and stock levels. The main thing is that I'm still moving forward from strength to strength and have been concentrating on this business full...

    Defender 90 (1995) 300Tdi - Thermostat

Had similar symptoms on my 90 and went for a new radiator, the old one was as rotten as a rotten thing from rottenshire, once out you could see the extent of it! It would have cooked the head if I'd carried on like that for sure. A new radiator later and the gauge now sits dead centre regardless...

    What do you think?

There are direct supply routes to some of the OEMs and there are a few independent wholesalers out there too.

    Stig Fasteners - Stainless Bolts

I have some individual kits in my shop if you don't want to buy an entire set, otherwise Landyscrews are good and reliable in my experience.

    Wheel Adapters ???

If you need spacers as you are fitting wider tyres or wheels with less offset then I have some in my shop that will be just the job, otherwise as others have already said, a bit more info would be helpful!

    glow plug relay

Best to have the relay and in my experience of starting my 90 in last winter's really cold temperatures, it's best to have decent quality glow plugs, not the cheapo ebay specials but a decent set of Bosch or NGK ones (still a lot cheaper than genuine LR ones). I found my 90 ran lumpy and smoked...

    what are the best mods

The best mod for my 90 was a set of cheap disco alloys which no one bid on so I got em for 99p off ebay and then as they have less offset I fitted a set of bulldog wheel spacers to get the right stance and full steering lock, I was so impressed with the quality that I now stock the spacers on my...

    What do you think?

I'm going direct to OEM wholesalers and manufacturers and having discussions with Land Rover as I want to be sure of quality and some suppliers on that list have a better reputation than others shall we say! It will take longer to build the range of items in stock this way but I can afford to...
