    Disco 1 Rear-facing child seat

Mini-Pete has now outgrown his first car seat, and we've got one of these all-in-one seats which will do until he no longer needs one. The seat can be fitted rear-facing up to 18kg (which we're keen to do for safety purposes) or forward-facing, all secured with the 3-point belt. Problem: 3-door...

    Disco 1 Original cassette radio

My Disco has had a CF radio installed somewhen in its life. But I never use CDs in the car now, and the aftermarket radio doesn't look quite right. Plus the steering wheel controls don't work. So, I'd like to revert back to a standard system. I have no idea what was installed at the factory...

    Wanted Original Disco 1 Radio

Embracing the 1990s with my Discovery. So I'm looking to replace the current head unit (doesn't work properly anyway) with an original cassette radio. Not sure exactly what was fitted originally, but I have the dashboard controls and rear sub/amp, neither of which are connected to anything...

Wanted Disco 1 front fog lights

I have a 1998 Disco 1 and the front fog lamps have fallen to bits- they're the ones which are set into the lower part of the bumper not bolted to it. Looking for a replacement set.

    Disco 1 No fog lights

Got a couple of issues to sort on my 1998 3-door before the MOT. Apart from welding in the usual places, the rear fog lights don't work. (I'm a bit new to Discos so bear with me.) The tell-tale on the switch doesn't light up either. I've checked the fuses and they're all good, so where next? Is...

    2.25/2.5 petrol interchangeability?

Looking for a petrol engine for the 109 in the interests of originality and ease of build. Ideally I'd like a 2.5 but they are few and far between. So: if I'm rebuilding a 2.25 anyway, is it as simple as fitting a 2.5 crank and pistons? 5 main bearing engine to start with, obviously. I figure...

    2.25/2.5 petrol engine

Had a change of heart with the 109 build. It was originally a petrol, so petrol it should be! (Much better than a clattery tdi or noisy and slow NA!) Plus no need for an overdrive at least to begin with. 2.5 would be ideal but if not, a late 2.25 will do just fine.

Disco 1 1997- wots it worth?

Looking into getting a 300tdi 3-door out of my mate's yard. Trouble is, there's not many of them out there so it's hard to get a reference point for price so I can come up with a reasonable offer. It's all there, needs a sill welding which he'll do and a new back door mechanism (which I'll...

    Wanted Working/Storage Space

Had a couple of break-ins at the lockup recently. Nothing major gone but can't help being paranoid about the cars being stripped/taken. So we're looking for a bit of space in the Coventry area to store and work on a couple of Landys and a few tools. Between us we've got a 90, a 109 and a couple...

    19J cooling

So what are my options for this conversion? The original viscous coupling works well enough, but will it fit behind a standard rad is the question. I don't want to move the front end forward as I was looking for a standard appearance, so if not, could the radiator be pushed forward slightly in...

    Front seats

What are my options? The front of my 109 currently has the usual square slabs of vinyl that were fitted originally. All well and good but not the most comfortable things and low-back seats aren't the best in a shunt. So: early Defender seats? They should bolt straight in right? Refurbed with...

    Oil pressure sensor for gauge

Gained an old Smiths oil pressure gauge from a stage 1 V8, to fit in my 109. Anyone know which sensor I need to make it work in a 19J engine? I believe the 90/110 had a pressure gauge as an option but don't know if it was the same.

    Planning a rewire

Doing a rebuild on the series 3, involving a chassis replacement so everything will be disassembled. Series 3 wiring is dubious at the best of times, and after nearly 40 years I don't think any of it is worth bothering with. It makes little sense to rebuild the truck only to have fire hazards or...

    Suspension options for a 109

The springs on my 109 project have well and truly rusted solid, and the dampers are equally suspect. So what's the best options regarding replacement? Conventional springs or parabolic? Which dampers? All too often any comparisons are between knackered originals and shiny new replacements which...

    19J and Series gearing

Looking at rebuilding my old 19J engine to put in the 109, which was originally a 2 1/4 diesel. I know the 19J isn't a very common conversion for a series 3, probably more from its reputation than anything else. But it's quieter than a tdi, cheaper to rebuild and just looks more suited to the...

    Doing a rebuild...

So, think I've decided on putting my old 19j into the 109 when I put it back together. The engine had a new cylinder head around 5000 miles ago, so presumably that should be fine- I'll check the fire face for flatness anyway. The turbo has no play in the shaft and doesn't seep oil past the...

    Fitting a 19j on a galvanised chassis?

Looling to do a chassis swap on the series 3 rebuild project- Richard's seem to be the go-to source. But I want to recondition and fit the 19j diesel from my old 90 in place of the now-absent 2.25d. I've read that this causes issuea with the RH engine mount fouling the injection pump, and the...

    Advice on a series 3...

I sold my old 90 'White Elephant' just over a year ago. The guy I sold it to is currently rebuilding it, and at the same time liberating a disco 200tdi engine out of his 1981 109 truck cab. The series has a knackered chassis (and soon no engine) but otherwise is all there and sound enough...

Wanted Looking for a 2.5 petrol engine

I think my 19J in my 90 is on its way out, so looking for something to replace it with. Call me mad but I don't really want a clattery tdi, and I think diesel will soon be the next big evil, and petrol has a longer-term future. So I'm looking for a 2.5 petrol- it should more or less drop...

    Oil cooler thermostat

Took mine apart to test it while servicing the 90. There's an oil cooler bypass which gets closed off by the thermostat when the oil gets hot- so directing all the oil through the cooler rather than just some of it. This much is evident from dismantling it. Anyone know what temperature the...
