My crazy diff ratio change idea

I mentioned oil pressure and water pump for cooling. I don't know if it will be an issue but it is something I would keep an eye on in case it becomes an issue. I'm not a motor engineer, I am a tinkerer and I am well aware that these things are fiendishly complex with lots of trade-offs. I'm...

Tried that but access is a bar steward and the washers get in the way. This was easier.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Fixed slooby's old Rangie. Running nicely. Leak off on #2 and #3 were leaking everywhere, of course. Quick fix with sone spare pipe I had ready. Now what the hell do I do with it? MoT test, maybe?

    P38A Seized nuts!

Quiksteel didn't work. Close but plastic just deforms. Drill the RHS one and that was enough to wedge a punch in there and undo the bolt from the remains of the nut. Tried the same trick on the other side, rust dropping in my eyes, ears, hair, everywhere. F***ing roasting out there lying on...

My crazy diff ratio change idea

Yeah, just got to the bottom of the thread and see events have progressed. Changing diffs is quite usual on race cars or where people change wheel sizes. Of course, those pursuits require a fair bit of fettling and expense anyway! Guess we'll see how the experiment goes. The car can sit in...

My crazy diff ratio change idea

Lower oil pressure too though and water pump will be spinning slower. It may actually be better to rev at 1300 rather than 1100?

My crazy diff ratio change idea

Best fuel economy is at max torque. Guessing on the petrol that's about 3000 rpm? I'd leave it as it is. I'd also guess that given most fuel economy figures are quoted at 56 mph (80 kph) then that's probably what it has been tuned to do best at. Is there a rubber doughnut on the rear prop...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Those Wildtracks are pretty good. One at work was twin - turbo with 10 speed automatic and I think it had low range too. Pretty sure it was usually 2H but also had 4H and then 4L on a knob near the gear selector. Towed with it a few times and it was effortless, albeit a bit thirsty.

P38A GEMS signal for ok to start.

GEMS is rolling code. Not convinced the Thor is but never played with one. I also don't know if it just sends the code to start or whether it continually sends it. Both strategies were used on the diesel depending on the year. Marty scratched the protective coating off the chip and then used a...
