I get that it's month and year. What I'm trying to work out is, is it the year numbers because it fits those year models? Otherwise why not do 12 years as well as 12 months? Or is it restricted to model/Mk eg: 3 yrs for the mk1 L322, 4yrs for mk2 etc, etc, etc?

First question is has the stealer said independent work won't invalidate warranty? If so then take vehicle to trusted indie to have a listen. If indie says there's an issue, and warranty won't be affected , trust your indie.

Do you have a way to blow out dirt and dust , etc before spraying the electrical contact cleaner? Apart from anything else blowing out dirt/dust might help the issue? Another suggestion is clean the key itself. You'd be amazed how dirty a key gets. Fingers crossed you get an easy , simple, solution.
