Yeah it's the one in the pic. Bought it around 2005 with a transit engine in it, noisy and slow but cheap to run. Gearbox gave up about a year...

Doesnt really explain the noise you were experiencing, fingers crossed it was just oil and not diesel, I'd keep an eye on the level
The bottom hole isn't used, I think it may be for a hose clip or something like that

Odd, I'd expect them to stay on for a bit after closing the door if the engine is not running and go out straight away when it is running.
Actually switches normally work the other way round, make contact when door is closed only...does it do the same with each door?
