Decided to buy a compression tester, which I can pick up tomorrow as the parts shop did not have any in stock. So £20 for the tester and at least it will show if it is a head gasket or both or something else, well I hope it will.

A couple of years ago I had a frontera sport I started that one morning and heard a loud bang at first I could not work out what it was, then I looked in the rear veiw mirror and noticed I no longer had a rear screen.

if there is a hole in the air box then you should patch that up or get a one from a breakers it may not be causing the problem but it dirty air will be getting to the engine. Also what made the hole has it at some point ran lean on LPG and back fired ?.

It rained all last weekend so today while there was a lull in it snowing I fitted the cylinder heads back onto the engine of my P38, but before I did I had to get a little bit of ice out of the one of the cylinders.

Next problem I want to relace the chain and sprockets, how do I undo the crank shaft pulley bolt. Everything is off the front, so Im left only trying to grab the pulley with something to stop it turning so I can get some purchase on the end bolt. Also what way does the bolt turn to get it off...

If I use wellseal will it not just get squashed out as I tighten the head up.

Got the heads tested and they are crack free, so they been skimmed the left side which had the sludge under the rocker cover need 6 thou taking off, the right side 2 thou. It cost £133 for the testing and skimming. Do I now need to fit a composite gasket or would a normal one be ok. If I need...
