no fuel pump timing is 13 degrees btdc (marks on flywheel)compression stroke no1,as can be checked through plug in side of the pump
whack them with a punch similar size to the screw head that should loosen them if done enough
when all the timing marks line up no1 exhaust valve should be fully open the engine is timed at exhaust peak
the same pump and box have been run on atf for decades well enough, it wasnt an issue needing sorting
you cant ,a pipe on the bleed nipple and keep filling till colour changes would be best way, but mixing wont hurt nor will using the atf
