  • Hello Rick, I've been scanning the post of BCU issues and you seem the man to ask about them.

Cutting a long story short I parked my Disco up a few months back and left it super locked and the battery went flat. The car would not start at all. A friend who has a Nanocom plugged it in and it could read all systems apart from the BCU. Could you please let me know if you could take a look at it.

    Many Thanks, James.
Hi Rick - any advice on a decent remapper for my P38 diesel auto (1998 pre-egr)? I have Jeremy Fearn and Eric Turner on my list... The latter did my BeCM some years ago (or maybe you did?!) and despite mixed reviews, was quick and professional at resolving my problems. Wammers suggested I run the question past you.
    Hi rick
Have just posted a question, becm with pics on testing,is there anything I can check before taking out becm to have tested ? Also do you still test and repair boards
    Cheers
    John
    Hi Rick
I have a Becm 6531 from my 1997 DSE. It has been replaced temporarily with a spare but the engine immobiliser keeps enabling on a random basis, and the key fob doesn't switch it off. I wondered if I can get the original repaired? I arrive in the UK on Dec 4th and can post it to you for a look-see? Would you need the key fob with it?
Hi rick i have been told my bcu is not recognizing the key fob could this be repaired. Key fob wont turn off the imobiliser.
    many thanks
Hi Rick I have issues with disco 2 bcu clicking and front Windows inoperative looking through various posts you say that you can check/repair them I am in Henfield so not far from you and was hopeing that you could help me many thanks Darren
    Hi rick,

I have a d2 td5 and it has just a few electrical problems.
I have had it tested at my local independent lr specialist, and they have said it is the bcu.
    The problems are
    indicators flashing when car locked
    car locks itself after 3mins
front windows open, but only close with doors open and engine running
both front and rear wipers have a mind of their own
    Rear heated window not working

so if possible I would like to send it to you for a check over and or a replacement.
I have opened it upand had a quick check overbut my untrained eye can't see anything amiss.

    Cheers dan
    Hi Rick
Are you able to supply key's /fob's for P38's or is this a main dealer only item .I purchased a P38 from a member of this forum and it came with only one key/fob .I can see me mislaying this pretty soon.
    Regards Doug
    Hi Rick-the-Pick

I've got a 2000 TD5 Disco, and like many others here, I understand you know a thing or two about BCU problems.

I've got the odometer 'B' and have lost rear wiper, indicators, rear elec windows, fuel cap opening and central locking. I'm not locked out and she stills runs beautifully. I've searched and heard a lot about faulty BCUs and wonder if you could shed some light on the best way to remedy this (and your opinion on 2nd hand replacement or refurbishing BCUs).

    Appreciate your help in advance,

    Phil
Hi Rick, a friend of mine is having problems with Td5 disco, been parked up for 2 months, dead battery, cant start. Has x'd B symbol next to mileage, i have been told possibly BCU problem? Gone through battery charging, EKA input, still nothing- no wipers/electric windows/hazards and no immobiliser flashing led on dash. I understand from searching posts that you are the BCU guru, do you still repair them? Have you got any suggestions to point me in right direction please- need to get it moved so i can weld it for them!!! Thanks, Steve
    Hi Rick

    I've a P38 that has poltergeists...

I can't get it to accept the key code.

The central locking only works when the battery is connected, locking and flashing the hazards.

I have to pull the wiper relay to switch them off.

    Dash lights come on.

Shame as it ran superbly until recently.

I use the vehicle in really, truly remote locations.

I don't need any security and would be happy to unlock the doors manually.

I certainly don't need it to immobilise itself.

Is there any way to disable the mad security?

I'm happy to accept a reduction in functionality provided the damn thing moves.

I have a spares p38 with a cooked engine that was presumably electrically healthy until the last owner decided it didn't need any water in it...
Hi this is a cry for help from Rick-the- pick
I have read you may be able to assist me.
i've well and truly electronically disabled my car (2000 p38. Dse). Parked up fine but wouldn't lock on the fob, locked manually with key , when I went back, opened drivers door with key and tried to start, engine disabled message on dash, key fob input no luck nor eka , doors all locked but didn't reopen after eka input , after 3 attempts , key code lockout , now seems super locked as repeated eka input simply causes hazards to flash three times when tried, doors do not unlock and alarm goes off if drivers door opened with key. Dash displays engine disabled . After years of random locking, unlocking while driving with a faulty micro switch in the drivers lock? as the eka was unsuccessful and thinking this may well also have caused the fault I have just replaced the door actuator after the current issue began, no luck! Am ok with removing becm and posting if required .
Sorry Rick, the next 4 posts are all arse backwards because I could only send 1000 characters at a time.... I hope it make some sense?
Joe Emmott claimed the car, which was with them for two weeks and the battery never discharged, he said he had never heard of a car destroying battery's and surgested my home central heating may be interfering with the car, but I had disconnected the r/f receiver some time ago and parked a good way away from my house . Anyway I picked the car up From them and used the car all day but in the morning the central locking didn't work and the engine disabled message came up, I tried to synch the keyfob but it did lock all the doors and dead locked the whole car, and won't respond to the keyfob in any way nowThe dash red led is flashing and initially when I were trying to synch the key the flashing would respond to me turning the key but nothing now... That's where we are up to now. Sorry for the "war & peace" message but if you know all the issues it would be easier to understand. any ideas?.
The car has been standing on my drive for 12 months because it was so unreliable, I put a new battery in the car and in the key fob and after a lot of messing about I managed to synch the key fob it flew through its recent MOT and I got it delivered to Emmotts of Colne who reset the BECM and replaced the rear EAS bags and sorted a leak on the heater matrix and did a lot of work trying to find if there were any blatant earth faults.
I have replaced the car battery three times, and it appears this car eats them for fun, the first two I thought I knackered them by overcharging them, but the third has never been near a battery charger! Anyway it was on the car for three weeks. And totally discharged. I went to charge it with a different battery charger and it sent the automatic charger crazy and wouldn't charge it.
Hi Rick, you were recommended as the man who can....I have a 2000 model p38,I fully loaded... Sat Nav etc. I've had it for three year, had to have the engine rebuilt after a couple of months, but I have always had trouble with the battery discharging, sometimes overnight, sometimes after an hour the battery is completely flat... (I have to send this message in a few bits because it's too long)

Hi Rick, a couple of the guys told me you may be able to help, here is the whole story below

Ok 96 dse p38 2 weeks ago I got out didnt lock her up and the windows were down 2 hours later I wanted to go out and discovered I couldnt find the keys, 5 days later after stripping the house and garage to bits I gave up and went to landrover for another key so I get home with new key run through the fob sync and nothing, try the key in the ignition and all I get is the red SRS warning light for about 10 seconds and the ABS pump purring away for about the same, nothing else, the dash is blank so get the EKC and enter as instructed nothing, not even a flash from the hazards,

I'm based in essex any advice as to who might be able to deal with it in the area.
